I was so excited for Pizza and I heard about the HUGE slices.... well, it was all talk. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I haven't been treated so rudely in a restaurant. The waitress sighed and rolled her eyes while asking us, what we 'needed'. No pleases or Thank you. And the pizza was seriously mediocre. We discussed the RUDE service with our friend who lives a couple blocks from Luigi's....he remarked that it wasn't anything new. And recommended some other pizza places for the next time. If you are in the Mission Beach area near Belmont park....do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else. Especially since there are lots of other places near by.

Luigi's is awesome for what it is. A simple, laid back, low-maintenance pizza place. Great daily specials that I take advantage of often. Thursday's the best day to go in my opinion because you can order any specialty pizza for the price of a cheese. Also the beer deal is phenominal! 2.75 for a pint of a locally brewed craft beer? Are you kidding me? Alesmith, Green Flash, Ballast Point, Karl Strauss, Stone. Best deal ever. Oh and the pizza is great. Not the best in the world but really good.

My husband and I anchored our boat in Mission Beach and walked over to Luigie's. We were craving hot chicken wings but had no luck finding them so we settled on Pizza. We were in luck, they had a hot chicken wing pizza, made wing wing sauce, mozzarella, chicken and onions and cilantro...it was BOMB!!! If you're a wing lover and pizza lover, this is perfect for you!! Enjoy!

Awesome service and great food. Atmosphere was nice. If you are looking for a great local place to eat this is a must. Easy to access from mission beach walking distance.

I tried the 30 inch pizza challenge here with a friend, and we only ate 6 1/2 of 8 slices. This thing is HUGE! Don't underestimate it... I did and it killed me. I ate the first 3 slices in 15 minutes and couldn't finish the last one in 45... the cheese is the main killer. You simply cannot eat that much cheese unless you have an abnormal stomach like Furious Pete. It's ridiculous. All in all, the whole thing must have weighed over 8 lbs. The flavor honestly wasn't that great. Their sauce was really herby and I'm not a fan of herby sauces. The service was okay, they were slow to seat us though. Price is expensive... $40 for the pizza but then again it is 30 inches. I would gladly pay that much if the pizza actually tasted good. The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is because that to other people, their pizza is probably good (my cousin loves it) but I am just really picky with how strong the sauce is. Overall, it was a fun experience.

Came here with a bunch of old high school friends.. We were just chillin on the beach and decided they were hungry. I wasn't hungry, but I had to join them anyways. I forgot what I had, but I remember it being okay? Obviously it wasn't memorable... Anyways I wanted to mention that 30 inch pizza... that thing is HUGE!!! I am debating if I would want to do that challenge, where you and a friend eat an enitre pizza under 1 hour, no cheats... and as a prize you get a shirt, a picture on the hall of shame, and ANOTHER 30 INCH PIZZA... haha that part is hilarious. Anyways, I really like the location and the atmosphere of the restaurant, it's very beachy! Probably come here again if I was in the area, and get a slice of that 30 inch pizza. ITS HUGE!

This is just an okay pizza place. It's fairly overpriced for what you get. The worst part of it all is that the waiters are extremely rude and the service is AWOL

Maybe it's my fault... so I post this review and will try again later. Had the mid-afternoon muchies and stopped in for a sammie. So I order a eggplant parma sammie and a coke. All I can really say is that the coke was good. I left the sammie mostly uneaten. It was a disgusting slab of greasy breading with barely an eggplant essence. As I said... probably my fault. The place is "cute" and looks like it could be a lot of fun, but I don't want to have to be drunk to eat the food. Next visit I'll try pizza!

Around 7 pm Sunday we noticed this place, looked good and had seating available. We ordered a pizza, spaghetti, chicken tenders and a turkey sub. The sub was basically a bread sandwich...2 or 3 pieces of thin sliced turkey, and like 3" thick of bread. Lame. The chicken tenders were over cooked, and dry...and the fries were soft and no better than fast food oldies. The spaghetti was gross, cold and under sauced. Lame. The pizza was undercooked, and really soft, not hot and actually gave my girlfriend food poisoning from the undercooked meat. I actually have a stomach of a dog and could only force 2 slices down. The staff was nice, but honestly you could tell they really weren't doing a great job. Food was 45-60min after ordering, and service was lackluster. It's unfortunate....a great location and poor food. This place could really be a goldmine, but it's simply just a dissapointment. Avoid this place, and eat at the taco place next door.

Not even sure why we ate here...guess we were hungry and figured can't go wrong with pizza place...wont be back..place is filthy dirty and food was just ok...the only redeeming factor was the server was nice and they have local beer on tap...but you can get that plenty of other places around here.

The sign inside says "the best pizza you ever had", I think not. It was good but not the best. It was skimpy on the sauce, crust and cheese was good. But... $11 for a 2 topping slice and a soda is way too much. I would have rather had a smaller piece for less money. If in the area may go back and try the Italian dishes.

I only gave this one star because there is not a choice of zero. This place has terrible service and RUDE staff, and mediocre pizza. I believe this place only stays in business because it preys on unsuspecting tourists. However, I do not know any locals that enjoy eating at this establishment, and being that myself and others live only a few blocks from here and refuse to give them our business says something. As other reviews state the place is gross and the staff is terrible. The experience that has ended my business with Luigi's was when I went with a couple people one weekday offseason evening to really watch a sports game that was on, but figured we could choke down a slice of pizza to be there. First of all we walked in and although there were many people standing around they looked at us as aliens, finally someone approached and we said there was 3 in our party. The server said they didn't have a table for us, which we immediately though was odd considering there were MANY open tables unreserved. When we questioned them, the staffers said in order to sit at the tables you needed more than three people. When we pointed out that there was two people sitting a table right over there, they said that that table was smaller than the others remaining. We then pointed out that the table looked maybe a whopping two inches bigger, and we need a larger table being that I was with two very tall grown men. As we looked around the place there was another couple of two sitting at a table the exact same size. I suggested we just leave to the people I was with because it was about to get ugly. Nevertheless, I cannot be sure if the staff at Luigi's is just simply terrible and rude or absolutely RACIST. Do not go here the food is not good and a rip off, the place is gross and the staff is amazingly rude.

Fun times! We came here randomly walking around after some of the clientele boasted about their "Horny Devil Ale." Which yes was 11%.... as a light ale? I'm coming in. I also had heard about their giant slices of pizza which the waitor claimed that one would be enough for a person. With doubt, I ordered a standard giant slice of Pepperoni. Ok, so I was wrong. This slice of pizza was just enough as I barely finished it. This was also after a pitcher of that Horny devil stuff. I think I left with a nice little buzz. Haha, all in all this place was fun. We didn't stay here too long but had a good time.

Pretty dirty, hella overpriced, mediocre food, and btw, if you want a fatty, oil soup, order the calzone!!! You will have a whole bowl of savory, empty fats oozing from the calzone as you try to keep the whole thing from falling apart or even soaking your shirt!!

Horrible place to eat!! Waited over an hour for pizza and it wasn't even busy. The service was horrible and the waitress was very rude. The salad dressing was watered down and there was a hair in the salad. When we told the waitress about the hair she tried to tell us that it was our hair. Later we found another hair in the water. And of course that was some how our fault too...eventhough both of the hairs were blond and none us were blond. I would strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere.

Luigis is great! We were staying in Mission and tired of going out so I ordered a couple pies and a salad for pickup and was very pleased. Fresh ingredients & good crust, a really good pizza. We recommend!

We picked up an extra large pizza to take back to our pad. The pizza is not incredible but it is pretty good! The place was very busy most of the day, so be prepared to wait 30min for a pizza. The sauce tastes a little different, unique and zesty, so it must be their own recipe. This pizza reminded us of pizza we love on the boardwalk in New Jersey. We ordered a second time late at night as well! Both managers we interacted with were very polite and treated us well even though we were just taking out! We will order from here again next time we are in Mission Beach!

Been to Luigi's a few times now. They have an awesome beer selection. One of the best in LaJolla, PB, MB, and OB. They have good pizzas that are really just fun because of the size. They have pleasant if not slightly slow service. And the price is right! Great place.

BEWARE OF THE ROACHES!!!!!!! I went to Luigi's At The Beach last night for the first time and it was disgusting!! The tables were dirty, menus were dirty, and the whole place was just gross! We ordered the mozzarella sticks which literally tasted like old grease. The pizza is definitely not as good as everyone makes it out to be (pizza sauce was bland and watery..the cheese wasn't melted all the way, & they put so many toppings on you couldn't taste anything else, and the dough was just plain rubbery), and the service was HORRIBLE! After taking a few bites of out food we could barely finish (not because it was so huge, but it was just greasy and inedible). Then, we look at the Parmesan cheese shaker (after we had already used it) and there was a LIVE ROACH inside, just walking around like it owned the place. After telling our server about it she didn't even look surprised. You would think that a manager would come over and asses the situation and apologize for the nastiness of the establishment but NOPE! HORRIBLE service!! They didn't even care. Seems like they're used to roaches running around. This place doesn't even deserve one star. i will NEVER step foot into that place nor will i ever recommend someone eating there. I wouldn't eat here if it was the last restaurant on Earth. This place needs to be shut down immediately!!

Some great memories of the place from the past but not so good this time around. This place does great business on the beach but they dont put any money into it. Bad paint, worn out chairs, dirty bathrooms and warm draft beer. The chiller door was open the whole time.. many tvs were not working. It doesnt have to be the taj mahal but its really run down.

Great beer and pizza location, near the beach. Luigi's is a great place to stop for a fairly decent slice (Stress decent here) and cheap beer. They have a great location within walking distance of PB. Group friendly, with a really nice outdoor seating area. They have a fairly diverse pizza selection, with some healthier options, as well as vegetarian fare. It's a bit like pizza port, with a wider selection and near the beach. Their beer menu is also good, with a wide selection, and good prices. Service is a bit disgruntled- but nothing I wouldn't expect from a beer and pizza joint of this nature.

There was a live fly in the parm shaker and the guy just told me "yeah the flies are bad this summer, just swap it out with one from another table." Enough said.

Servers were VERY rude and extraordinarily slow. Drinks, slices, the whole deal was a very long, drawn out experience. Came back about an hour after my group left with someone else who wanted to see the HUGE slices of pizza -- it took over 15 minutes to just get our order of a pitcher of beer and a slice of pizza and 15 minutes later we neither so we left. I don't suggest going unless you have nothing but time. The pizza that I did have was decent, the beer was $14.50-$22.50 for a pitcher, so don't expect a cheap tab.

Ok, here's the low-down on this shabby tourist trap. First of all, the time to wait for the pizza is ridiculous. The actual restaurant itself is also pretty dirty, and the obnoxiously loud people that were also eating here did not make my time here any better. When we were finally seated, our 18 inch pizza took 40 minutes to bake, and was "backed up" at one point. When the food finally arrived, I was extremely disappointed. Digiorno's would be better than the pizza I ate. And to top it all off, for an 8-slice pizza and 5 drinks, the bill was around $50. I could eat a $12 dollar 8-slice pizza at my local pizzeria, and the level of quality would far surpass this pizza. All in all, this place is the biggest tourist trap I have ever seen.

I loved this pizza, we got the 30" and it was more than enough. Convenient to the Dipper and Mission Beach, 6 big TVs to watch and they are all showing different channels/games. Would definitely go spend some more time there. As far as the whiners about giving 1 star after having the eggplant... EGGPLANT PIZZA !?!?!?! Get over it.

New pizza place we will see....well and we did. The food wasn't that great and the service sucked here. Waited forever for our salad while we watched our waitress eat her food at the counter. Not cool...

I would advise you not to go here. Came here with my boyfriend fourth of July for lunch around 3 o'clock. We were sat at a two top towards the back of the restaurant, which we asked for, so that we could watch our bikes that were parked out front. Our server was obviously new and had now been trained since he did not know where the calzone section was on their menu. That is not to say however that he was not friendly and welcoming. We ordered a chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger with a side salad. He brought us our salad and we had a friend walk in to join us. Like I previously stated we were sat at a two top table so we politely asked to move to a 4 top table that was right by the window where again our bikes were parked. It was dirty so we said we would wait till it was cleaned. Our server said that was not possible because it would mess up the sections they had delegated for that day. Now being from the restaurant industry, I know that that is not a matter of customer concern. If the customer is unhappy with anything in the establishment, it should be the employees responsibility to do anything possible to take care of that. Again the server was new so I do not believe he had been properly trained as what to do in this situation. So, our friend who happens to be about 6'4" big guy squeezed next to us at our table. significantly crowding the table next to us. It was a 4 top table with two people sitting at it. They did not mind but I am sure they would have preferred us to not be so close. About 5 minutes later the owner, who was also acting as their host in seating people came up and abruptly told our friend that he could not sit there. We said to him that we had asked to move to a bigger table and were told no. He was extremely rude to my boyfriend who has owned multiple restaurants and bars where we are from. We said that if it was not possible for them to accompany us that we would just leave. And instead of offering a new table to us told us that he would call the cops on us if we did not pay for the salad we had ordered. Paying was no issue to us, and he continued to make a scene until finally saying he would have one 2 dirty 4 top tables behind us cleaned for us to sit at. However, he forced our friend to walk all the way back up to the front to wait until the table was clean. (which only took about 30 seconds). When we were seated, and our food came out but after everything, all we wanted was to leave, we asked for a to-go box, paid our bill and walked out. I apologized to the table next to us for all of the drama, and as I walked out, noticed the owner following us outside and around the corner. All to make sure that we paid. I thought that this was completely uncalled for seeing as we told him we owned and worked in restaurants for years and paying was NOT AN ISSUE. This owner was ignorant to any sort of customer service etiquette and overly rude to us and I will not be back specifically for that reason. Not to mention the bun on the chicken sandwich completely swallowed the extremely unseasoned chicken breast and the fries were unbelievable cold. Seeing as I love french fries and I had eaten a handful right as the food came out. Overall the staff that assisted us was not well trained, the food was mediocre and the owner/manager/host was a liability for the fact that he is the reason I urge you not to go there, and giving it the rating I did.

I tried the eggplant parm sandwich at Luigi's, and have nothing but regrets about it. Not only was it the worst eggplant parm sandwich I've ever had, it was also the worst sandwich (period) I've ever had. In fact, it is the worst thing I have had from any restaurant in San Diego. $8 got me the lunch special 1/2 sandwich + salad. For some reason, I thought this was a good deal. Upon further reflection, I realized it is a total rip off because normally a full-sized eggplant parm sandwich (from other places, I mean) will cost about $6. To be fair, the 1/2 sandwich was actually huge for a 1/2. If I ordered a full sandwich that big, I would be happy - if it was edible. But, the salad added no value whatsoever. Iceberg lettuce - the least expensive, least flavorful, and least green of all lettuces - topped with a few shreds of carrot, a ring of onion, a slice of bell pepper, three cherry tomatoes, and croutons. The croutons were good, at least. Back to the sandwich. The eggplant parm in the sandwich was definitely old. It was cooler than room temperature, and tasted grainy and just plain gross. I hate even to think about it long enough to review it. There was hardly any marinara sauce. I thought about asking for more, but then realized I didn't want to eat this thing even if I was able to drown it in enough sauce to get it down. The bread wasn't bad - nothing special though. The entire thing somehow managed to have no real flavor. Completely bland. The texture of the eggplant was just awful. I took three small bites before I had to give up on this sandwich. A friend got the chicken sandwich, and felt the same way. He did drown his in marinara, and was able to finish it, though. On the plus side, Luigi's atmosphere is cool and they have a great selection of San Diego beers. But, at $5 a pint, you could find beers just as good at Newport Pizza in O.B. for less. With better food. No complaints about the service at Luigi's.

Kids thought it was the biggest slice ever, great pizza. Unbelievable local beer selection, must have 20 or 30 beers available, I had the Legacy Nut Brown, May be the best nut brown I've ever had, I'll be back next time I'm in mission beach.

Beer quality & selection is amazing at this spot. 20 something taps, many local brews, and many are hoppy ales. Great! Food was just alright, especially the fried appetizers. I know it was cornmeal that they used for breading but it was awfully similar to sand as far as taste goes. Pizza was above average but not great. No air conditioning was a bummer too, but given the location you can't blame them. For a sweaty drinking session with pizza, this is your place.

Absolutely love the place...my family makes sure to visit here every time we come to San Diego (at least twice a year) and it never dissapoints. Pizza is awesome, beer is cold and it's close to where we stay (surfrider). I must say the service is impecable, I've only met the guys who work there...but the one guy who has blond hair is the nicest dude I ever met. Totally took care of our family, was patient with my kiddos, great demeanor. I always give him a great tip. If they could deliver to Arizona I would be a regular customer. Word to the wise...the giant pizza feeds my family of 6 twice over! :-)

Filthy restaurant. Ruined any chance of me even liking their mediocre pizza by the filth of the floor, chairs, walls, etc. Just lazy management. The entire place needs a scrub down. Ideally, the place should be packed, although surrounded by other dumpy restaurants. As long as you are going to be in business anyway, might as well clean up and try to look hygienic. Owner must be depressed....needs Restaurant Impossible to come in to kick butt./

Assholes. Came in to use bathroom that we were in desperate need of. Greeted us with "well now that you'll be eating with us what can I get you." told him we wouldn't be and that we just came in to use the restroom. Essentially forced us to buy a coke from him. What kind of customer service model is that? Clearly won't be back. Amazing how that works

Meh. We ordered 2 large pizzas for pickup. Both were undercooked and over priced. We had to put them back in the oven when we got home to cook them all the way. I also asked if the had any bread or cheesy bread sticks, they do so I ordered them. Come to find out they are mozzarella cheese sticks, not cheesy bread as I had hoped. That could have been my fault. Either way, disappointed. They also said 20-30 minutes for pickup. I arrived at 30 minutes on the dot and ended up waiting another 20 minutes in the lobby. They should have told me 50 minutes and I would have shown up at 50 minutes. Sadly, I was expecting to hear Italian spoken in the kitchen, not the case, all they spoke was Spanish. They should call it Jose's, not Luigi's. After we re-cooked the pizza when we got home, it was ok. Honestly, I think a frozen pizza (Red Baron) from Von's is just as good. I think there was a total of 9 pepperonis on the entire pizza. Their large really isn't all that large either. It would be considered a medium at papa johns, little caesars, dominos, pizza hut, round table, etc. Overall, very disappointing. Must be nice to have that location, you can serve shitty pizza and still survive. My mother in law said it was the most horrible take out pizza she ever had.

Luigi's pizza is easily the best pizza I have ever tasted, hands down. I can understand the comments about the service. One thing that people must understand is Luigi's is right at Mission Beach where millions of visitors come. Mind you, these are upper crust, older, calmer visitors. Many of the people are college students, the very young, and often the very drunk. Luigi's is not an exclusive place so in order to help families and other patrons enjoy themselves, they have to keep control. Remember, people walk in here without shirts full of beer, with no bouncers. What they have seen is probably what most bars see and they are open all day, unlike a bar. The price is reasonable, the food is amazing, the atmosphere is awesome. I do wish they would upgrade their TVs, but other than that, it's my favorite place.

After a day of walking around Sea World, the family wanted pizza and nothing else would do. We plugged "pizza" into our GPS and off we went. Well, the place it directed us to looked a little scary so we walked around the corner and happened upon Luigi's. I ordered the pepperoni pesto pizza (with tomatoes and mushrooms). My hubby ordered BBQ chicken (although I didn't try any) and my son had a 1/2 slice of cheese. The "kids" slices are 1/2 a normal slice of the super size (30") pizza. He made two meals of it! I don't know that words can do the pizza justice. They use part skim mozzarella (I prefer it over whole milk) and I think it helps with the texture. The dough, although not overly seasoned is amazingly well cooked. It was crisp and chewy but not chewy. So difficult to describe. Soft crust, not too thick and cooked to perfection. My pizza had a pesto base that was not overpowering and the mushrooms were very fresh. I normally only eat one or two slices of pizza but I ate the entire medium (don't judge me). It was that good. Minus one star for SLOW and under-friendly service as well as a "gross" salad offering for kids (iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and cucumbers only). I will definitely be back for the pizza again!

DO NOT VENTURE PAST THE BEER!! [they can't really screw that up] WARNING!! the FOOD SUCKS!! pizza is "fair" Sorry to blast that, but it's beyond true......just try it yourself [No not the yelpers but the OWNERS or COOKS!!!] It is a shame that they would even put ANYTHING Italian in the name to FOOL you - it is FAR from anything Italian, consider it bread with tomato sauce - a pretty bad one or VERY BAD BREADING on ANYTHING fried - it truly SUCKS!! this review is meant to be insightful to the restaurant and a clear warning to the eaters there - LOWER your Expectations by about all you can. The pizza is like sex - it is always acceptable/good, no matter how bad - and this is no different. It is your very AVERAGE pizza - it comes down to the sauce - which taste as canned as can could be - poorly. The rest is just standard. BUT the worst offender is without a DOUBT - ANYTHING that is fried - they really do have the WORST Batter/breading of ANYTHING i ever had - these are your VERY STANDARD items - like cheese sticks, ravioli and zucchini. it is ALMOST impossible to have bad fried food like this - they are always tasty and you can buy them out of the store in a box frozen and they would be great - however their breading is REALLY thick and TOTALLY LACKING FLAVOR - just taste like a mouthful of corn meal and it is just ruins the food - there is NO flavor at all - really i have never seen anything like this EVER. One guess is maybe the cooks/owner smoke cigs as this impairs your ability to taste b/c there is NO WAY you would ever serve such poo tasting food!! So, yes come here for the beer the specials are insane - have a GIANT slice of pizza and you'll be stoked - but DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING BEYOND those 2!! or' you'll be very sorry - sadly. HOPE THE KITCHEN IMPROVES THE REST OF THESE ITEMS - i WILL NOT be back to eat ever again - maybe a beer but that's it. CIAO and CHOW are 2 totally different things - let's keep them that way!

My first review fell outside of the yelp guidelines, so I will try again. Here it is, edited. I hope this is OK for you yelp staff. I have never reviewed this place, and up until today would give it 4 stars. However, because of one incident, I am giving them 1 star. We go on Thursday evenings, because they have an amazing pizza and beer special. $3.00 local craft beers (all pints!) and pizza's for the price of a cheese. Also, normally there are a number of servers, but in particular Lauren and Steve who are both very cool, very helpful, and super nice. Tonight, I guess we got there early, and the general manager, whom I will not name, was there. She resulted in us having a bad experience. She was incredibly rude and discourteous. So much to the point that after going there every week for over 2 years, we stood up and walked out without ordering. I asked where Steve and Lauren was because I wanted the nice staff back. Later I found out that she was planning on talking to them about "being so nice." Apparently, she was going to reprimand them because I said they were nice. In short, if you get Lauren or Steve, tip them well because they are awesome. If you see a particular general manager that I can not name apparently because of Yelp guidelines, then be wary. I have only been in the restaurant twice when she is there, and both times we had a similar experience. The first time I did not yelp it. The amazing thing is - there wasn't a particular thing she said - she was just rude with every little comment. It started because we had 4 out of 5 people in our group there. The last was parking. She refused to seat us (totally common in some situations, I understand. What made this ridiculous, is that there was maybe 2 tables occupied in the whole place...and no one was waiting for a table). I began to question why, considering the place was empty and we have come here ever week for over 2 years (the group as a whole has been going there for well over 6 years), and she just gave all kinds of crazy attitude back and essentially yelled at us. To make matters worse, I emailed the owner to complain about my experience, and the owner yelled back at me over email saying I was out of line to complain. I think the pizza is good and the beer deals on certain nights are amazing. Most of the time the service is fine and friendly. The point is, there is a single employee who can completely ruin a groups evening, and I think that this is a platform where I should be able to point that out.

Wow, we ordered a meal tonight at this place. XL pizza with lots of toppings, $30 pizza. The toppings covered about 1/3 of the pizza and asked "what's up with this?". I said we really thought this was not right. They offered to buy us beers. Our total bill would have been $60 plus tip. After talking with the waiter and they didn't see our view, they said our bill was zero. Nice but, is that what we wanted? WE wanted good food and leftovers for the sail to Catalina. Bathrooms stuck, the place was filthy and it was definitely a place for the tourist the don't care about what they eat. They must make a fortune on one time eaters.

It's a cool beachy, open air spot. Local beer on tap, 5-6 tv's all around, one slice of pizza is bigger than any slice I've ever seen. It was at least a foot long. Chill atmosphere- bar food was eh, bar food. Good place for a quick bite and local taps :)

We've been bringing a marine biology class to San Diego for many years. About 5 years ago, we started a tradition of ordering the gigantic pizza for delivery the first night of arrival for our students. Well, we ordered one in Julne 2013 and it was delivered by a very nice guy. We ordered again in July and the guy on the phone said we've never delivered to you and I don't know where that is. I told him I would tell him where and he said he wasn't going to do it. Well, thanks a lot Luigi's for ruining our tradition. Also, I might add, I went to Luigi's in May of 2013 for dinner and the restaurant was filthy dirty. There were holes in the restroom walls too. I will never do business with Luigi's again.

I expected a authentic Italian meal but what we got was a cross between getto and a state prison. Flies were plentiful so at least the food wasn't going to waste. Don't eat here!

Screw this place... 12 of us came in to eat and they split us all up at different tables. When I asked the jerk manager to split up the bills at each table he said no that he wouldn't because we came in as a party.... they still wanted to charge us the 18% gratuity even though we we at different tables... we paid for our drinks and left... go to the pizza place down the street with the mexican music, zo zos pizza...

Out of the millions of different names they could have came up with, they had to pick, "Luigi's." Anyways, the pizza was decent but I loved how they put an enormous amount of cheese. It's rare these days to find so much cheese on a pizza; if you don't believe me, order an extra cheese pizza at Domino's - that disgrace of a restaurants the thinks it's selling pizza - and you'll see the cheese difference, or rather the lack of cheese on Domino's pizzas. We ordered a roasted garlic chicken pizza. It had a lot of garlic (a good thing) but the chicken was a little bit off. Best thing about the pizza is that they aren't shy with cheese. Lots and lots of cheese; I hope they don't change that! The 3 stars isn't for the pizza which was good but rather for the local beers and the mom-and-pop feel of a small, hole-in-the-wall, Italian joint.

I ate here for lunch today. I am sure it isn't the same Luigi's Pizza that is on 25th street. I ordered the lunch special chicken parmigiana for 8 bucks. It came with fries. The chicken was sliced really thin, hardly any sauce or cheese and overall very dry and tasteless! This place needs a makeover! Not very good stuff at all! I saw some really huge pizzas playing around but they didn't look very good to me. This place needs a real authentic italian touch and it just doesn't cut it.

My three friends and I split an 18" Combination pizza (8 large slices) and a pitcher of Airdale this afternoon. I'm a fan of pizza, but a greasy pie is a huge turn off for me. Luckily, Luigi's pizza came out fresh and soooo delicious. Very minimal grease, fresh sauce with excellent spices, loaded with crisp veggies. I almost felt healthy...almost. The bill ended up about 14 a head, for two slices of pizza and probably a pint and a half of beer. Not too shabby. I will definitely come back to try their BBQ pizza or maybe their calzones...mmmm. Bonus points for our awesome waiter!

Yum! Great super friendly service and cold beer. Well priced. Hubby had chicken parm n a ceaser salad which had a great dressing. I got the veggie calzone and it could have fed 3 people. Probably a bit more cheese then i would like but they certainly don't skimp on ingredients. We will come back to try the pizza as it looked pretty good. Heaps of big tvs so definitely a place to watch the game

Particularly rude when we had 4 out of 6 people and arrived at the restaurant. We didn't appreciate being talked down to and being asked to wait outside when the restaurant is half empty on a Monday afternoon!

I love this place. It's super convenient for summer tourists, but locals keep on hitting this spot during the off-season because they have a ton of beers (most of which are local), yummy food and very cool and personable employees. I've become a regular because it's the place I can go on my nights off to drink my favorite beer on tap that I have a hard time finding anywhere else, and eat as much of a giant slice of pizza as I can. Five stars.

i bought a slice of pizza on happy hour for close to too much and a large pizza for more than id like to pay and a water, sugar and practically no alchol mix of margarita pitcher which did not get me buzzed, im 160 pounds athletic body and a whole pitcher didnt faze me which is odd since tequila should make someone at least buzzed the lowest form of intoxicated, the total was like 58 dollars which for a nicer meal at a resturaunt would be nice but it was pizza and a couple of waters margatira and a slice of pizza... doesnt make a bit of sense. saying that the pizza was decent and i actually enjoyed sitting there at the beach on a warmish coolish day and enjoying myself, the waitress could have been a little nicer to my date i wasnt there to be hit on or have her be only nice to me, she didnt look at her twice before only asking me what i wanted and since there was only one pizza cook and one of her the service lacked a little. i know ive been there before to drink beer and a slice of pizza but maybe service can pick up a tad bit next time just saying, yes i will go again but hope for them to improve because next time will almost be my last and this review will hit rock bottom zero stars.

Update. We went to Luigi's again as it's close to our place. Once again, the service is what makes this place not worth dining at. The service is super slow. We went during off peak hours, and it took about 45 minutes to get our pizza after we ordered. There were only 2 other parties in the dining area! The thing that really chapped my hide is when I asked the waitress for some ranch to go as we didn't finish our pie and I wanted some for later. You would have thought I asked to kiss the Pope. She was extremely rude. They've done nothing to improve the service. The location is great, the pizza is average but the service is bad. Not going back again. I gave it 2 chances.

Was there @ 9pm on Thursday 4-26-12(the reason i am detailing here in case the owner cares) ordered piece of pizza to a very unfriendly/rude girl who does not seem to care and asked for a chicken topping The pizza itself was good but chicken was probably thrown on top dierectly from the freezer dont may the cashier or this in norm NEVER WILL GO THERE

I love this place. The pizza isn't much over average, but the giant slices are HUGE! They have a nice selection of micro brews on tap. If you like dark beer like my boyfriend does, try the Russian Imperial Stout. Good salads and delicious, crispy onion rings. The chicken piccatta was good, too! They have an outside deck as well, for the beach crowd. The place can get very crowded and hot inside on busy days. If you and a friend can eat an entire 30 inch giant cheese pizza, you'll get the free pizza, T-shirts and your photos on the wall of shame. Only a few have survived the challenge. No leaving or bathroom breaks allowed.

If you sit outside, be prepared to sit there for a very long time without even being acknowledged by the wait staff. They seem to forget that they actually have tables outside. They seem to forget that they have to wait on those tables. If you order a drink, that will likely be your only drink, so make sure to drink it slowly so you don't choke while eating your food. Sure, the pizza is good. And service is never exceptional in pizza joints. And they're going to get customers because of foot traffic on this busy corner, no matter how the service is. Just be prepared for horrible service. Like if you have two hours to spend just to eat one slice of pizza, you'll be fine.

Shauna D., aka Minty, and I needed to get our grub on before the San Diego Yelp party on Friday night but hadn't researched where we should eat before we headed down, which turned out to be a gastronomic mistake. We decided to have a driver take us from the hotel directly to Cane's so we could have dinner somewhere nearby. We were a bit concerned about our potential options as we walked through the ghost town of a boardwalk. Seriously, they weren't even running the roller coaster - what's up with that? Nothing there was open, though I only really would have considered Hot Dog on a Stick because I love corn dogs. (Come on, I'm from Indiana - dipping something in corn meal and deep frying it is practically a state-sanctioned religion.) We quickly realized upon getting to Mission Boulevard that our choices were limited. We were initially trying to decide between a pizza by the slice joint and Roberto's Taco Shop (because we still haven't tried carne asada fries) but then we saw Luigi's. It was brightly lit and filled with happy-looking people, so we thought it was a fairly safe bet. Oh, how wrong we were. To start off on a high note, the waitress, Julianna, was smoking hot. They had Diet Coke - yay! - and a number of beers from local microbrews. I ordered the Ballast Point Calico Amber Ale and I think Minty ordered a pale ale; both were pretty good. We admit that we probably would have been more charitable in our impression of this place if we had just ordered the pizza. But no, we had to look at the rest of the menu. Minty ordered the chicken eggplant parmesan and I ordered a pepperoni and sausage calzone without noticing the "football-sized" descriptor above it. I only had a nibble of Minty's parm but it was rubbery and somehow the breading was cold and damp, not to mention falling off the chicken and eggplant like the dish was a molting parrot, which was gross. As for my calzone, it truly was enormous, but according to the some of the guys I've dated, size isn't everything. Let me just say nothing about this calzone other than the sausage, of which there was not enough, was meritorious. The outside, which had been "lightly fried and then baked" was thick and dark and tasted like a burnt donut. The inside was a messy glop of cheese with pepperoni that tasted oddly like Oscar Mayer baloney, leading Daeman C. to christian it balonaroni when I told him about it at the party. Even worse than the food was that it cost us $50. My wallet and my stomach were robbed!

Came here because they had a good special for SD Beer Week. This is kinda a cool little spot for pizza and beer. The problem is, the pizza is not very good. Sorry, that's just the NY pizza snob coming out. I don't approve and neither does the wifey, an SD born, NY pizza convert. I would like to take on the eat-a-thirty-inch-pizza-between-two-people-in-an-hour-and-get-it-free challenge, but not sure if I'll be back now that beer week is officially over. I was gonna go today at halftime during the chargers game, but their special was ending by 4, before the game even ended. I wanted to stay for SNF, but their special was ending so, whatevs. Anyway, the beer selection is typically very good from what I understand, but $5 are not the best deal in the land. Good local selection though. They have a million, medium-sized flat screens playing ever sporting event simultaneously, which is kinda annoying because it makes it difficult to focus on one and enjoy it, but makes sense because it pleases everyone. for a football game though, I would want a bigger, more focused viewing, such as around the corner projected on the wall. The pizza was kinda just lacking flavor and good fresh sauce I guess. I don't know. My friend got the wings and liked them. Our server was pretty cool though and hooked us up pretty good. If you want a spot by the beach, aren't too picky about pizza (i.e., eat dominoes, papa john's and the hut), and like good beer, check it out.

I live down the street from this place, so obvioulsy location sometimes dictates where I go. I do really like this place though. They have a GREAT beer selection and the chianti is yummy too. Its a fun place to hang out during the week with the boy, relax, and eat comfort food. They dont have great happy hour specials, so you will end up spending a little if you eat and drink here...but i think its worth it. The service is friendly and prompt. In the summertime, this place can get PACKED with tourists. Just a warning, you'll be waiting forever for a table. In the off season though, perfecto!

Awful pizza! Some of the worst I've ever had. My wife got pineapple and I got pepperoni, but the only thing either of us could taste was black pepper, and lots of it. The sauce is full of black pepper, and it seemed really out of place. The pepperonis were undercooked, as in floppy and raw. The crust was bland, and also stretched very thin; a hallmark of cheap pizza. Did I mention it's overpriced? $14.50 for two slices. Granted, they were two giant slices, but giant-sized shit is still shit. I would sooner pay the same price for a couple of personal pizzas at Target. At least those are edible. Save your money and find somewhere better to go.

Decent pizza... Huge slices... too much cheese but not enough pizza sauce for me but most people seem to love it. Service can be great or it can be terrible, it's hit-or-miss depending on which server you get and how busy it is. Good selection of beer.

Luigi's is within walking distance to my friends house so, we ended up here twice while on weekend-cation in Mission Beach. On the first visit, I ordered the $5+ giant pizza slice. It was very mediocre. You can always judge a pizza by the crust and to me, this crust just didn't come up to my standards. Because the slice was larger than my head, I give this experience 3 stars. The next day, USA v Ghana. We couldn't steal/stream the game to the TV so we went back to Luigi's. The waiter was somewhat ADD and kept coming over to our table and demanding we order stuff. We finally ordered a pitcher of beer and then he didn't bring it over for what seemed like a day. He was weird and funny though, I liked because he invited me to use the mens restroom (TOTALLY FILTHY!) when the women's was occupied. It was nice of him... 3 stars for you.

Made the mistake of ordering takeout from this place without checking Yelp first. Big mistake. The Fettucine Alfredo was the worst I have ever had. It was as if someone boiled pasta and then poured a cup of whole milk over it. Just terrible. Brutal. The garlic bread was tough and looked like someone spray painted orange paint over it. My kids had the baked ziti which was passable. I would NEVER EVER recommend going here.

Conveniently located near where we stayed. Pizza was pretty good. We had take out, so can't comment much on the service - although I believe what the other reviewers wrote. They weren't the most pleasant bunch...

Had a Greek style pizza with chicken and artichokes and tomatoes there was more cant remember. The Crust was nice and thick. Also ordered mussels in a great wine spicy butter sauce. I normally dont care for mussels, I would prefer clams but this dish changed my mind. The sauce was good enough to drink. Made me pizza crust amazing just dipped it in the juice to die for. And stilling on the patio on a sunny day it was a wonderful beach day filled with great food and good service

I went here to try out a Seafood Pizza that a friend recommended that I try. I'm a seafood lover and before Luigi's, I haven't found a seafood pizza yet that tasted pretty decent. It was either too wet and falling apart when you would pick it up, or there would hardly be any seafood at all and the seafood (like shrimp) would be dry... This is what I found about Luigi's....The pizza was loaded with shrimp, calamari and had some clams on it...It held together and was very tasty. Even my son loved it and he was very skeptical about me ordering a Seafood Pizza. I would give Luigi's a better grade but unfortunately, there was a lot of remodeling going on at the time we ate there.

I didn't eat here. I just drank so that is the what the rating is for! Great selection of locally brewed beer. They have a beer called Horny Devil which is a light pilsner type and it is 11%. It is BOMB. I also had another good one called oceanside blond. Didn't get to try the food but definitely recommend going to get some drinks there!

If you enjoy BAD SERVICE a DIRTY RESTRAUNT and MOLDY BREAD then I highly recommend you eat at Luigis... I would definitely NOT recommend eating at Luigis and let me tell you why........ As a Mission Beach local and never having actually tried Luigis, my boyfriend and I decided to try Luigis last night and see what the hype about the "giant slices" was all about. We sat down and decided to order a plate of bruchetta to start with, as we dug into to the bruchetta I started choking on the nasty taste of the bread and just thought that it may have been a nasty type of bread (apparently I didn't realize I should inspect the bread before eating), that is until my boyfriend started choking as well and spit it out as fast as he possibly could, we looked down to discover the all our bread was MOLDY!! I'm not talking like a spot of mold I'm talking FULL ON MOLDY BREAD!!! It was appalling!!! When we brought it to the waiter's attention, he didn't seem very concerned and almost acted as if it never happened, probably to save his own ass and prevent a potential law suit and Health inspection (which is coming their way). The pizza was alright but wasn't anything spectacular, in fact it I thought it was overrated and pretty greasy but the fact the waiter ONLY comped our $3 MOLDY bruchetta and not the rest of the meal, let alone even acknowledged or seemed apologetic to the fact that they were serving MOLDY BREAD to customers was disgusting in itself... So if you enjoy BAD SERVICE a DIRTY RESTRAUNT and MOLDY BREAD then I highly recommend you eat at Luigis... Today we feel sick to our stomachs, were up all night vomiting and have filed a formal complaint with the Health Department which is now launching and investigation on Luigis. No Joke, aside from the beer, it's pretty bad.

I got the giant slice with Italian sausage and extra cheese. Gotta say.. If that was with extra cheese I'd hate to see the normal amount. Flavors were ok but not the best pizza I've ever had. My fiancé had a calzone. That on the other hand was pretty awesome. TONS of cheese. The sausage and pepperoni were fresh and delicious. We had to wait a bit longer, but only because the calzone is made fresh. It's also the size of your head. I do highly recommend that, but you may want to share unless you have a large appetite. As far as cleanliness.. Our table was a little sticky. Considering its right in the middle of the beachy area I'm not shocked that it wasn't pristine and elegant. Our waiter was super nice and the food was decent. We might try the other pizza places before we go back.. But maybe not. They do have a pizza challenge that my fiancé wants to try. Two people, one 30" pizza in an hour and it's free. We shall see how that goes.

Definitely a beer and pizza joint. One giant slice of pepperoni filled me up. Tasted delicious! Bruschetta was descent. Wine was bad. Service was good. Lots of entertaining drunk people everywhere. Fun place. Highly recommend. Don't stray too far from the beer and pizza.

This is a super-touristy spot in the Summer because it's right by Belmont Park and makes perfect pre-or-post beach food. Take out-of-towners here and then show them the rollercoaster. The huge tasty NY style pizza goes great with a beer and a sunburn. AV

I was so used to going to the beach for the day and after a long day of being out in the water and being so drained I'd head down to Fatboy Pizza. Well my bro introduced me to Luigi's and holy shnikes was it good. I order one slice of pepperoni and I added parmasean cheese, dried red bell peppers and oregano and WOW! If your headed down to Mission Beach or PB for that matter and have the craving for a slice of pizza then Luigi's is the place.

For a place that is packed most nights out of the week, the quality is not that great. The pizza may be cheap on Tuesday nights, but the crust is dry, the cheese is extremely greasy and the overall taste is not enticing enough for the low prices. Pitchers of beer are also at great prices but their signature beer tastes watered down, and too sweet for my taste. A beer should have a strong taste and most of their beers are pretty weak. For the price, it's not worth the wait to get a table. Its also crowded with young college students who are pretty immature and loud, louder than you should be in a bar. I guess I would say the only plus is how many TV's they have in there, so you have the opportunity to watch pretty much any game that is occurring. I'd rather grab some beer at 7-11 and watch the game at home.

ZERO STARS! I live in the neighborhood and have gone there more than a few times and it gets worse and more expensive every time. This place is, without hyperbole, the worst pizza place in the world in the history of pizza places. It would be impossible to overstate how bad this place is. The last time I got pizza delivered from there I had to call them back and have the delivery kid bring back my money and take his stinkin' pizza with him. It was so watery in the middle it could not even but cut with a knife nevermind eaten. Add to this the fact that it is very expensive and the only way to look at it is do yourself a favor and go somewhere else--lots of places in San Diego have good beer selections. Or don't eat at all. Believe me, you'd rather go hungry.

Luigi's on Tuesdays is the reason why pizza and beer were invented. $1 humongo slices and $2 pints = $9 and you are full and well on your way to being on the floor. Fun atmosphere, but really, it's all about the huge slices of pizza (more than a foot long?) and the cheap beer on Tuesdays. I've never gone on any other day of the week. I doubt it would taste nearly as good.

  • Kinsee M.

The food is cheap Italian eats--if that's what you're in the mood for, go for it. It's really the decor at Luigi's that I dig. The black-and-white checkered floor is something I hope to soon emulate in my own home (if, that is, I ever decide to take on one of those crazy high interest loans and make the plunge like a few of my crazy friends who don't mind being in debt for the next 300 years).

So there used to be an amazing pizza by the giant slice joint right off the beach path, but they got new owners and no one was eating there! After a beach stroll, we walked right past the main strip of eateries and stopped at Luigi's right around the corner. Luigi's boasts enormous pizza slices and pies as well. With several sports seasons in full effect, the crowd was rowdy and energetic. Slices were giant, salad portions were not, soft drinks were endlessly flowing. I ordered the veggie calzone, but was a little underwhelmed. Overall a solid pizza spot to fill your belly, especially if you have friends and a good sports game to add to the overall effect.

Visiting SD for my birthday weekend. Another recommendation by a co-worker../ ah man did he get it right! We had pesto, mozzerella, tomato pizza that was served hot and gooey. The crust was soft, and the tomatoes fresh. Along with a very spicey bloody mary, it was a great way to start any sunday morning. 13 flat screens with 6-7 different football games going on. Good thing I don't live closer to San Diego, I would be a regular there!

In highschool my friends and I used to come here every wednesday night for dinner. It wasn't my first choice but everyone enjoyed it. Pretty good giant slice for $4.61 (less on Tuesdays). Greasy, thin layer of cheese on a thin layer of garlic-granuled sauce with a thin layer of crust beneath. The crust is browned/crisped more than Fat Boyz.

Ok so I didn't have their food but it did look good! All I can say that they have a very nice guy their name Steve and thanks to him I got my car unlocked......I had my bday weekend spent in Mission Beach and my keys got locked in my car along with my purse cell phone everything!!!...I had like a dollar in my pocket ...and every pay phone I tried using was out of order so I happen to go into Luigi's to use the phone there was two guys and that guy Steve was totally awesome I mention I would be calling the 714 are and he was totally ok with me calling ...although there was another guy there that looked like a total yerk...anyhow he even looked up a number on his cell phone for me to get my car open ....THANK YOU STEVE FROM LUIGI'S .......THAT JUST SHOWS THAT YOU HAVE A VERY KIND HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a very frustrating situation and he was there to help.....so next time if you see him and he as kind as he was with me to you..... make sure you mention it to management ;)

This place is really nice. I won't say that it's the best place around here, but I will admit it's pretty damn good. The pasta was a 7, nice and creamy with all the fixings, although the sauce does lack some flavor. The pizza I got had a great flavor and was pretty authentic to it's Italian counterparts. Lastly, the appetizers are pretty good, but unless you plan on buying them and splitting them with your group or getting an appetizer combo as a meal, you might not want to spend your money on it.

Good: This place has awesome pizza and a good choice of toppings. The slices are huge, and the prices are pretty reasonable. It's a good beachy, relaxed atmosphere and a good place to get pizza and beer on the beach for not too much money. Bad: Incredibly slow service, to the point where you're saying, okay, if i don't get a check in the next five minutes I'm walking out and they can chase me down if they feel like it. The seating is also kind of cramped. I'm guessing most of the business is take-out and people who sit for hours and watch sports, so that's what the staff is used to. Just be prepared if you bring kids or you're not ready to sit there for two hours.

Luigi's you are so delicious. A big pizza slice, a soda, and your ranch sauce and one is in pizza bliss!

HORRIBLE SERVICE! Don't waste your time or money if you want to sit down for dinner. Unfortunately, we didn't Yelp this place until we were seated. We should've walked when we had to ask to be seated in the first place. We were a party of four, including one child. It was a Thursday night about 8 o'clock, not too busy. Had to ask for a kids menu. Once our order was taken, it was 40 minutes before three of our meals were delivered, COLD. Burger was dry and smothered in LOTS of mustard and chicken parm sandwiches were slapped together and had no flavor or sauce. We asked for sauce and they wanted to charge us $1.50. No apology for the wait, no explanation of only three meals delivered. Waited another 10 minutes, hunted down our server, and cancelled the 4th meal (kids meal) and asked for the check. He brought us our check and said, "Sorry, we got backed up." It was not that busy and the food was no where near warm. We took our cold food to go and got my daughter some pizza around the corner. This establishment looked like there was no management around. Everyone in the back was snapping their gum, sucking on straws or just chatting up. So unprofessional. We will never go back. Unprofessional, horrible service and horrible food!

Full disappointment. Pizza was sub par and 3 slices and drinks was over $40. And they added 18% gratuity automatically? Seriously, at a pizza place? Don't waste your time or your money, go somewhere else.

The slices here are massive! I really liked the many tv screens as my ADHD is moderate. The service is typical for the beach. Attentive but frantic.

Luigi's was very close to the rental we were lucky enough to be staying at, and it looked promising (and when is pizza ever bad? it's pizza). I actually had the spinach lasagna, which was delicious, but very oily and tummyache-inducing later on (nothing a walk next to the water and some fresh evening air couldn't fix). Luigi's is a nice small place, we got to eat outdoors, the service was decent, and the staff was friendly enough. Everyone in our party who ate the pizza liked it a lot, although I think it was disappointing that there are no options as to thickness of crust. The crowd was an interesting mix of families and twentysomethings obviously going to clubs/bars later on, so the restaurant seems to have a broad appeal that lends itself to a steady stream of happy customers. One note: the credit card used to pay for dinner was double charged. Upon asking about it at the restaurant the next day, the staff tried to be accommodating and helpful in resolving the issue. Frustrating, but could have been much worse.

Pizza had always been good. Have been going here for years whenever I can get here when I'm in San Diego. Not sure what other food is like, but pizza has always been more than acceptable. Some reviews say pizza was greasy. We had the carnivore special, and minimal grease with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, etc.

The pizza was good, not too greasy and lots of toppings and a couple of sauces to choose from. The beer selection is great! We'll definitely be back!

I ordered a massive slice of pizza from these guys and damn was it big. I had it sliced in half for the kiddies. I was greatly impressed by the size but not much else. I hated the plain white crust and weak offering of cheese. To be fair, I don't think you can give a well seasoned pizza that size. The pizza was large and gangly at only half size. It was a basic slice of pizza nothing more, nothing less. (not the damn best pizza like that nifty plaque states)

This place is awesome! We always have leftovers and they make a darn good calzone. I always split whatever I am going to get with someone, because the portions are so big. They have specials everyday, and tasty beer choices. I was sad that they got rid of the Blue Moon, but that's a ok. They also have an out door patio so you can catch some rays while drinking at the beach. They have like 20 TV's with every game on and you can see them from where ever you sit. It is a bit pricey but worth it.

This place was reasonably priced for being right on Mission Blvd., and we had a GREAT server. Friends who pointed us to the joint raved about the enormous slices. They weren't kidding. It would be about the size of a standard piece of paper, probably a little bigger. They start at about $5.5 and each topping is about $1. A great deal if you just want cheese, but quickly goes up when add even 2 toppings. Ingredients weren't top notch, but not awful. As this was a beer and wine place (as in they only have a beer and wine license, not a full liquor license), I was surprised to see mixed drinks on the menu. When I asked about them, the server explained that they get around it by using either sake (rice wine) to make fruity cocktails or agave wine to make margaritas. She honestly warned that if I was a margarita connoisseur I probably wouldn't be too impressed, but as I am not, I tried one. (After making sure they had an equal alcohol percentage as a normal mixed drink.) This drink was about $5.75 - again, pretty reasonable given the location. They had a lot of local brews on tap, and even though it was a busy Saturday night, the server brought out about three samples. Someone ordered a pitcher of the local Hefe and was a little shocked to see it turned out to be more then $16 when he got his bill. But that was the only "bummer" to note.

Worst "restaurant" ever. PLEASE READ ENDING. Bad food, but even worse staff and management. Unbelievable. I came here with a small group of friends (6). Only three of us were eating because the other three had already had bad experiences at Luigi's. I figured how bad could it be and really wanted pizza. When we first walked in we told the waitress only three of us were eating and she rolled her eyes and was very rude. She added that one of our friends that could not bring in her can of Sprite. We ordered the extras large Combination pizza and a couple pitchers. The worst pizza I've had from a restaurant, and I am including chains. When we were ready to leave the waitress brought the check, which was around 45 bucks. Even though the waitress was incredibly rude, we each pitched in three dollars each for a tip- adding up to nine dollars. We went up to the front to find the waitress and gave the money and check. She counted the money and started to say something but then rolled her eyes and said "nevermind". Now this would be a bad enough experience already- but it gets worse. We leave, walk to the corner, and begin crossing the street. One of my friends points out to me a disgruntled looking woman leaving Luigi's. We realized we were being followed. We stopped and the woman caught up to us. She identified herself as the manager and told us that they have a 20% gratuity added for parties of six or more and we had been 25 CENTS short. She then said something along the lines of "Being a manager I know how hard it can be for servers to make tips" and "I understand if you don't have the money to pay, but you could at least let us know". Before she could finish, one of my friends quickly apologized and offered her a dollar bill. The woman said thank you aggressively then turned and walked away. THEN, she turned and screamed at us "AND IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING SMART TO SAY YOU CAN GO F#!& YOURSELVES." (Just a reminder, this was the manager screaming at us.) Not only did I feel like we had been ripped off paying a whopping $55 for the worst pizza I've ever had, but I was humiliated in front of my friends as well as strangers.

Why is SD yelp different? I'm used to being able to input a location and finding nearby locations. Instead, I got a list of random recommendations in areas that were nowhere near where we were going. I didn't really have time to futz with my blackberry so in the end, Miss Ericka Sparkles and I headed down to 'Cane's and decided to wing it. The town car dropped off us in what seemed like a creepy area complete with a non-running roller coaster and scary merry-go-round. We walked around searching for anything that was open. Hmm, tacos or Italian? We figured tacos would come in handy later after drunk fest so Italian it is. Luigi's was packed with a huge party and lots of groups. Fortunately, we were able to snag one of the last tables. Scanning the menu, the calzone initially jumped out at me as I haven't had a good calzone since NY but when I saw it was the size of a football, I quickly went with the chicken and eggplant parm and went with the clam chowder as my side. Uh, what the eff is this? It's cheesy. It's smoky. It's salty. It's...a cheesy smoky salty clam chowder with BACON! It wasn't bad...um...it wasn't...good. Um. It was weird. Okay, that's the best adjective I've got for now. Truly bizarre. Then the parm. Okay, it seemed like it would be good. The cheese was good and gooey. The chicken was pounded thin which was a bit disappointing. The crust must have ate the eggplant which dissolved immediately as soon as I started cutting into it. The breading would fall off until by the end of the meal, I had a pile of soggy breading. It was really nasty. Why, oh why is this place popular? Damn you happy smiling people who led us astray! Well, at least my honey blond beer was good. And service was sincerely nice. That's about it. We would have been better off braving the tacos place around the corner with the strange DVD rentals alcove.

If you are looking for the authentic Italian treat --- DO NOT go there! Yes, it's located physically by the beach but when we were there, the windows were open to enjoy the ocean breeze. Except traffic noise was loud and lots of flies. Please don't waste your time and money.

I will never go to this restaurant again. Very expensive for the food, which is mediocre at best and the service is horrible. The second time I went there I was refused service because apparently they won't let you sit down in the restaurant if you have less than 5 people (there were 3 of us). I went across the street to Starkey's and I had a great meal with great service.

I went to Luigi's last night after my friend dragged me over there. I didn't really want to go there but she insisted that its really good and that I would enjoy that. I got there and to be quite honest, I was a little put off. There was a giant pizza in the window but it looked like it had been sitting out all day and it looked weird (this is what I thought before I learned how they actually cooked the pizza). I looked through their menu, without having any idea what I wanted, I was thinking about maybe a salad or something, but then decided to just get a slice of their cheese pizza. My friend told me I would not be disappointed and the people that worked their were super nice and friendly and sooo patient with my indecisive mind. I sat down and they brought the biggest slice of pizza I have ever seen over to me. It was seriously giant!! She also brought over Ranch and said "Try the pizza with this ranch, trust me!" I did and it was delicious! Its a typical greasy slice of cheese pizza but I really did enjoy it and its exactly what I needed. The ranch was incredible too. I know what you are thinking, well ranch is ranch, but there is something different about this ranch, I asked the girl and she said that it is homemade there! It just had a really good flavor! I really enjoyed the pizza and the friendly staff made this first experience at Luigi's very delightful. I will 100% come back to Luigi's. My friend said they had really good Baked Ziti so I will have to try that next time and see how it goes.

I really don't have anything good to say about Luigi's. I placed an order for pick up and when my boyfriend went in to pick it up, he was completely ignored by the 8 employees sitting behind the counter (they were too busy watching the Lakers game I suppose.) He said it was the worst service he has experienced. We ordered a medium and a large and they were more like a small and medium - and they were not cheap. The pizza tasted alright, but was far greasier than any other pizza I've had. Not sure if it is just a coincidence, but 3 out of the 4 of us ended up feeling pretty sick the next morning. Sure, I've had worse, but considering the price and poor service, I will not be going back to Luigi's

While walking around the beach we stumbled into luigis... We were all hungry... (there were 8 of us) Melissa the manager happened to help us out and move some tables together for us... She was an awesome waitress with extensive knowledge of the beers on tap... ( I think they had like 24 different area beers) this made us even happier while we waited for our pizzas.... The food was great so was the beer and the service.... Highly recommend luigis if you're out in mission beach

I've only been here when they had their Tuesday night specials ($1 slices $1 pints). Great place to hang out w/friends and have some brews, favorite spot for college students =) Pizza is nothing special, but for a dollar.. you can't really ask for more. If you go on Tuesdays for their special, get there early (730 maybe?) or else you'll be waiting forever to get a table.

After a beautiful day lounging at the beach and walking around Mission Beach, we had built up an appetite, and this looked like the most promising place in the area, especially after the sandwich stand down the street ran out of bread. I had a ham, salami and swiss deli sandwich on a ciabatta bun. It was very good, especially for the price: only $6.50 (for a 6"). They have lots of items on the menu and you can't really go wrong here for a quick lunch by the beach. They were also playing a great selection of California and beach-themed classic rock that day. =]

I'm amazed at the average of a 3 star rating for Luigi's. My family just went to Mission Beach for a vacation, and the first night we tried this place. We all ordered the Giant Slice which is a single slice from a 30" pizza (By the way, if you and one friend can eat the entire 30" pizza within an hour, it's free and you get 2 T-shirts). These slices are huge, probably the equivalent of 1.5 small pizzas. They taste amazing. the crust is perfect, they put just the right amount of sauce on it, and even though we agreed when the trip started we would only do pizza one night, we had to go back for a 2nd round. This is a 5 star pizza place that tastes so good, I can''t imagine somebody being disappointed .

Holy haberdashery, Batman! These pizza slices are huge! Mission Beach was the hangout spot for my friends a few weekends ago as we were all in town to celebrate our friends wedding. After spending a gorgeous San Diego day at the beach, we showered and then dragged our sunburned asses to Luigi's to meet up with another friend and her boyfriend. When we arrived, our party had already ordered pizza and we were totally fine with that. I also ordered a house salad because I was starving and in desperate need of something ASAP. The ranch dressing was good (that's what everyone else had) but my thousand island was kinda dull. We had the Hawaiian pizza and I was done with one slice. Seriously, huge slices of pizza. Whether you order one slice or have a slice from their large pizza. And so much cheese! Pineapple was juicy, the ham was tasty and I liked the crust. They had Cherry Coke! They lost a star for me because our waitress was not very attentive. My friend (a former waitress) had to go up to the counter with our cups to get them refilled. Not cool yo. What made the guys happy at our table was the Dodgers-Padres game they had on their big flat screen TVs. Dodgers kicked ass that night. =)

I live right across the street from this place . all in all i like this place. Living by the beach isn't cheap and kinda on a budget . The weekday specials are good ($1.50 slices $ 1.14 pints of Coors light) on Tuesdays now . The pizza is good not great( cant beat the prices on Tuesdays ) the have hamburger specials on wesndays ($ 4 dollars with fries or onion rings ) the onion rings are good and mostly not a fan of them . The rest of the food on the menu is average or below average , If you want go Italian food in Pb go to Philippe's Grotto . This place gets really busy on Tuesdays (mostly college kids ) inside is small and there is a nice little patio area outside . Most the workers are cool and friendly . For food i would give this place a 3 star ratting .For specials and 26 beers on tap at a Italian place a 4 star. Where else on Tuesdays in San Diego can you get 2 huge slices of pizza and 4 Coors lights for under $10 dollars

We were on a family vacation in San Diego in The Mission Beach area and stumbled across this place. WORST MISTAKE to step a foot in this disgusting excuse for a restaurant. Don't even let me get started on the horribly rude service we received! I can't decide if the food was the worst part or the attitude on the stuck up, no good waitress. My daughter got an old crusty pizza that looked like leftovers from the day before. I'm pretty sure they just added cheese and heated it up. My husband ordered chicken tenders and when he bit into it, it was literally still frozen and pink on the inside. No apologies for either barf attack... And the worst part is she got upset when we told her to cancel the rest of the "food" and told her we weren't staying. If you're in the area and this place seems enticing, do yourself a favor and run the opposite direction.

One of the best pizza deals in San Diego! Generally I don't like thicker crust pizza, but for Luigi's I will make an exception. Pizza and beer go together perfectly, and this place does it right. Weekly specials here are great. On Tuesdays you can get a couple slices of Pizza and a couple Firehouse Pale Ales for under $8!!! Its hard to beat that deal anywhere! Did I mention that this place is also located footsteps from the beach? Parking is easy with a giant parking lot located down the street. Great food and a good place to catch the game with ample TV's. Check this Mission Bay pizza joint out.

We hoofed it down to Luigi's from our vacation rental for a really nice, casual meal. Spaghetti and Meatballs, Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Parmigiana and a kid's meal of Chicken Fingers. Everyone had enormous portions of good food. TVs in every direction kept all eyeballs dancing. The waiter suggested some "off the menu" local brews that were really tasty. A good time was had by all. This is surely a tourist spot, but since we were tourists it wasn't a problem.

4 stars for having an awesome pizza challenge (2 people & a 30-inch cheese pizza in 1 hour), which MY FRIEND AND I WON !!!!!!!! Without this place, my friend would have one less food-victory, and I wouldn't have had my first. and our nicknames wouldn't be "Fucking Awesome".

THE HAIR!!! dark black hair.. BAKED INTO THE PIZZA!!!!! disgusting!! the waiter promptly took the pizza off the table.. came back and said they took the 'whole thing off' .. well we get our check and for 8 drinks (5 of them being kids) and 2- $4 pieces of pizza it came to 30+ bux anyways! nice.. i still cant get the taste out of my mouth ..bleh!

This place is amazing! BUT DON'T GO DURING THE SUMMER. during the off season, they have great deals on pizza and beer but that all ends during the summer. The servers aren't that great so don't go expecting to be waited on like a king or queen. It's a great place to watch the game, go on a date or just bring the family.

Best pizza crust in town. College-aged crowd through locals come here. Great deals during the week. Small restaurant; can get crowded. I arrive early (6pm) and I always get a table. Their Giant pizza is the size of a car tire.

    O. My. God. Only eat here if you want to get robbed and eat week old chef boyardee style pizza. Sure, the massive pizza slices appear enticing, but they are gross. I could only eat a bite and actually had to leave. And the spaghetti and meatballs.. well, I don't eat meat, but my mother isn't one to say no to food and - she walked out. Save yourself the dollar. Do not step into this hell hole.

We have been going here for over 15 years. This place is great. Great food, pizza, philly steaks, sausage and peppers, antipasto salads, yum! I always get the giant slice which is a great deal. The owners are great and some of the cooks have been there awhile. We always take our child and I don't see why people would say this is not good for kids here. I see lots of kids here esp in summer. THe only thing I would pick on is that they changed their french fries. They used to be the thick steak kind, and now they are the skinny mcdonalds kind, which I don't like all that much.

I love Luigi's pizza and go there every Tuesday night for their fantastic deal. How can you argue with a pint of beer and a giant slice for $3??? You can't. Plus, the people who work there are extremely friendly and have great attitudes, and the overall place has a really nice vibe. If i ever move away from San Diego, I think I'll make someone mail me a slice of this pizza every week.

Location, location, location. Situated within throwing distance of the Mission Beach roller coaster, Luigi's At The Beach really wouldn't have to be very good to be successful. But it's pretty good anyway. What are their strengths? Giant pizza slices quickly served. A great selection of beers. A great casual vibe with televisions aplenty. Friendly servers. What are their weaknesses? Inconsistent quality. The giant slices are warmed after you select your topping, which is the tradeoff you make for speedy service. The pizza sauce is also kind of generic. We have had luck ordering fresh pizzas individually, which takes a little longer while solving the warmed over pizza issue. The white pizza is a family favorite. The kids meals are not really well thought out, but are a cheap way to add a Caesar salad to your family's meal. A good value. And what's a restaurant without a t-shirt eating challenge? I won't answer that question, but Luigi's has a fun one. I've definitely had better pizza elsewhere, but there's something about Luigi's that keeps me coming back.

The beer was good, Ordered craft beers, something Hubba Bubba and Honey Hips something or the other... ordered a huge slice... The service was good... I guess you are paying for the atmosphere, but I still find it hard to believe that two slices and three beers cost us 60 bucks???? Whatever... just prepare yourself, hold onto your wallet... you really don't get what you are highly paying for...

  • Gabriel G.

The service is decent and the pizza is standard. It gets a lot of hype for having a massive 30 inch pizza but I couldn't even finish one slice because it really isn't that good. I got a 3 meat pizza (bacon, pepperoni, and sausage). The toppings were good actually as I picked them off the pizza. However, the sauce is quite generic and has no flavor. It kills the pizza for me. The only thing that keeps me coming back are the buffalo wings. The wings are absolutely delicious. The sauce is brilliant. The only thing that is bad is that the wing size is inconsistent; overall, some of the best tasting wings I have ever had. The reason I gave this place 3 stars is because this restaurant revolves around its pizza and it doesn't even have great pizza.

This food is AMAZING! We're here on vacation and have picky eaters (children) and food connoisseur parents. :-) Our kids ate all their chicken tenders, fries, spaghetti, and salad. Mom and dad split the "Football" calazone. They give you a bottle of ranch dressing so you don't have to keep asking for more. Lol. Also, the ranch is delicious and obviously homemade. Loud environment so we blended in well with our 3 & 4 year olds. We wanted to branch out and try other places while we're here, but this place is so good, we're ordering AGAIN tonight to-go! The calazone is $20 but it can easily feed two starving adults (and we kinda eat a lot).

I had the giant slice of pizza it wasn't the greatest I loved the crunchiness of the bread but that's about it. They had a lot of TVs that had different sports on the environment is pretty relax. It was kinda crowded might have been because it was a holiday weekend but they managed to sit us right away.

Pretty good pizza. The staff is petty cool. I've been there twice. Once we went in for a few slices and the guy working there went out "for a smoke" and he smelt like weed when he came back. Lol. Overall it's good pizza and the staff is friendly.

Was a little dicey at first then we figured out the menu got what was best for us and it turned out to be great good waitress take your time to figure out menu well after all is said and done they need to treat her as a little better since that's their bread and butter just remember you're as human as the rest of us no better

28 beers on tap... Lots of local brews. Honey Hips was pretty fast. The pizza slices are huge! Thin crust and crispy. $5.50 a slice and $1.50 for each topping. Tasted like something you'd make at home. Nothing fancy but they had the bball game on one of the many tv's. Filling meal but probably won't ever eat there again. I guess the locals like it better!

We ordered the anti pasta salad which was large and worth every penny. Then we ordered spaghetti with meat sauce and lasagna both dishes were good and came with a nice size salad. I would have given this place a five but I wasn't exactly found of the pizza. However they have very good sized pizza. The toppings and cheese were good but the dough was blah. The waiter was good tho. I would recommend sitting inside cause they did have a fly problem.

Had heard great things about this place so decided to give it a try. What a DUMP!!!! $20.00 for a single calzone that would be 8-10 bucks anywhere else!! Also, dirty place with bugs in the windows and light fixtures. A spider dropped down on our table from the light over our heads. Service was ok, but this place is truly an overpriced pig pen. Sooo many other choices in Mission Beach so avoid this dump and you will be set!!! Also, who fries a calzone?!?!?! They're supposed to be baked. Gross!!!!

Good for a slice of pizza on the beach. The pizza slice is huge it is $6 for one slice, service was quick and attentive. It right by the beach so there's always a crowd. Overall good experience to show friends to get that omg look when the pizza comes out.

Awesome atmosphere! Huge selection of local beers on tap. Delicious food and great service. We had a party of 8 including three kids (one in a high chair) and had a wonderful expereince!

Amazing GIANT slice of pizza! Toppings are expensive, but for a giant pizza $5.50 is awesome!! Friendly servers, gets packed and there is a bit of a wait depending on the time of the day or night you go... But pizza has am awesome tangy spice taste to their marinara sauce... I will always go back! :D

This is such a fun place! I was offered a job but I live too far away, so I had to decline. The servers are fun! I love the fried calzone!

Showed up pretty late tonight with a dog and even though their patio was already closed they reopened it for us bc I had called earlier. Thank you for honoring that. They were all so sweet, bringing us water for my dog, turning on the heater and just overall great service. Pizza was huge and tasty, everyone enjoyed their food. My kids kept commenting how nice everyone was.

Too expensive, greasy and dirty. Would be better after a night of too much beer when food quality and value don't matter.

Can't beat $1.50 slices and $2 Bud Lights on Tuesdays - pizza is decent, but can't judge any thing else since I haven't really eaten here other than on Tuesdays. They have a gnarly food challenge that is calling Man vs Food by name.

My friend had been wanting to try this place across the street from Mission Beach and Belmont Park. It doesn't look like much from the outside and it sure doesn't look like much on the inside. Coincidentally we showed up on a Tuesday, which so happens to be the day they have discounted Giant Pizza Slices. Normally I think they are like $5.50 but one plain slice was only $2.50. You have to pay for each individual topping ($1). I figured I'd get three toppings to meet a "regular price" slice. The pros are that one giant slice can totally fill you up (definitely--as long as you get some toppings). I can eat alot and I was STUFFED. Also, they have almost 30 different toppings options, which is very cool. Everyone can customize their pizza to their liking. The cons are that the pizza crust was crispy, almost too dry for my liking. It had an okay amount of cheese but not enough to balance out their dry, thinner-than-flatbread crust. My friend even had to ask for some buffalo sauce for her pizza! I perused the menu and every single plate is over $10--even lunch plates. I'm sorry but if I wanted to pay $17 for eggplant parmesean I'd go to Olive Garden and at least get a better ambiance out of it. The individual pizza slices are so-so affordable but you can get pizza almost everywhere nowadays--go somewhere else! I don't know what else you would come to this place for, except out of convenience if you're already at Mission Beach. Oh, and the service stinks. Our waitress attended to us only when she had to: to take our order, to bring us our drinks, and to bring us our food and check. Check-ups on how customers are doing would be appreciated.

Very unimpressed. Mozerella sticks had a nice batter that appeared to not be out of a box, but they were insanely greasy. They were longer than normal and there were about 8 on the plate, not too bad for the $9 you pay. The "giant" pizza slices were maybe the equivalent of 2 regular slices--and it was $6.50 for one slice of pepperoni pizza. I may have been alright with paying this, IF the pizza hadn't tasted like it was straight out of a cardboard box. I took a couple of bites and told boyfriend it was on him to finish. I couldn't and didn't want anything more to do with that slice. Also, there was an employee chowing down on something behind the line. Pretty gross considering she was eating right over top of where they serve salads and other cold foods. Will definitely not be coming back.

Came here to eat lunch on a weekday. The place could use some minor cosmetic repairs. The staff was not very accommodating and informed us that they could not seat us until our whole group arrived (party of 5) even though the place was not full. The pizza was good and a bit on the pricey side for their menu items. I would go back if I'm in the area and looking for good pizza.

We recently went to this restaurant because our friends recommended it and we were not disappointed Ben our server was excellent he was patience with us and kept our juice soda and water filled. Our pizza was pretty awesome we also ordered the garlic cheese bread and hot wings. When we go back to San Diego we will eat here again.

I deleted my good review a few months ago because of 3 negative experiences in a row. Figured...no review is better than a bad review. BUT TODAY WAS THE WORST! Tourist prices with less than tourist service. Fine if you don't want repeat business, which you don't get from tourists. Only reason I went back was convenient location. Won't make that mistake again. Dirty. Smelly. Expensive. Not that great food. Hit or miss service. I mean really hit or miss. You either get great service or none at all. Today was a none at all day. The guy NEVER came to my table. After nearly 15 minutes, I walked out. Other tables noticed and commented to me about the guy totally ignoring a customer. Food is hit or miss too. Pizza can be great or cold and old. Only consistent thing is the beer. The beer is worth it on one of the specials nights...but there is still the hidden cost of the tip. This place would be better of self serve with no tips to worry about. If I could just order and take a seat I might have stuck around. Not like there aren't a dozen other pizza joints in the area to try.

Well I am sad because I had 3 people recommend this place and I was dissapointed. We were the first customer on a Tuesday morning to enter. The waitress greatest with "hello don't sit on back there is a lot of flys" So um okay there was a fly issue. For just opening the tables were dirty and had not been wiped down so this maybe why there is a fly issue?!?!! The pizza was good and the slice for $8 was about the side of a keyboard. I am sure this is why others come back because I really was a good deal. Unfortunately as I walked to the back to the bathroom there was a horrid odor coming from the back that just wasn't right had I smelt this first I wouldn't have eaten there. Since I had heard such awesome things from others it may have just been a really bad day for them maybe short on staff? Not sure I may give it another try in a year or so and hope to give a better review.

Great location and beer selection, but the food and service we're just so-so. The place seems to do a good business due to the location. We ordered a pizza, pasta and salad and elected not to bring the leftovers home. Unfortunately, the area doesn't seem to have any really good spots for a sit down dinner.

This was our last honeymoon dinner and it was worth it. Our previous dinner plans didnt work out but thats ok because this place is yuuummmmeee! The slices were huge!! From my elbow to my palm! I had canadian bacon, pineapple and bacon (i like bacon...but who doesnt?!) and I couldnt even finish the whole thing. The hubby had a medium buffalo chicken pizza..it looked and smelled delicious but I didnt have any. He didnt finish his pizza either and THAT is saying something. They have a challenge-finish a 30" pizza between two people within an hour. Apparently out of 11,000 only 89 have conquered it...he's now determined to get his picture on the wall. Nice staff and great beer choices Definitely a new fave in Mission Beach

The bartender tried hard enough, but we still had to wait 10 minutes to put our drink order in, then another 15 minutes to put food in. Cheesy bread was okay, nothing special. Pizza was...not great. Next time I will order my giant pizza slice crispy because my pepperonis were raw and my crust was completely white. I would like to try again because it is such a staple here at Mission Beach. This time... Unimpressed.

Incredible, delicious, casual and fun. Well worth it in every way. I don't go to Mission Beach very often and when I do,I take the boardwalk, so it's easy to see how I could miss this spot over the years. First, the slices are HUGE. Old-school (at least for me), NY-style slices, reminiscent of Brooklyn and Seven Start pizza in Hoboken, NJ. Stoked. They had 20+ tap handles of beer, most of them craft, but plenty of options for people who prefer Bud Light or other mass brands. Nothing wrong with that! Decor is what you would expect from a pizza place a block off the beach. It's casual, with a small bar area (where we sat) that fits about 6-7, and a lot of tables throughout the place. A few TV's show everything from baseball to monster truck events. I didn't explore, but I saw there was an outdoor area too, which is a bonus. Come as you are, leave full and happy. The crew there was on it. Missy greeted us and was on point making sure we had our glasses of water and tasty brews filled at all times. When I asked about slices, she let me know very clearly that they a quite large, which didn't disappoint. One slice is probably more than enough for an average-sized human being. The rest of the crew working was pitching in and very personal too. All in all, the crew at Luigi's helped kick-off our afternoon events in a great way. We were all stoked.

My family & I went here today for the first time & it didn't disappoint. We were greeted by Rick as soon as we walked in. He was awesome-- super chatty, friendly, & quick to bring us our food & drinks. We ordered a pepperoni pizza & it was great. My kids loved how massive the slices were. Also, Rick brought us ranch with our pizza & it wasn't in a tiny little cup, he gave us a freakin' squirt bottle full of it! Love this place, glad we stumbled upon it!

If I could zero stars I would. I purchased a slice of pizza and afterwards was told to eat it outside (to go apparently meant you are no longer allowed in the restaurant...15 minutes before they close at 9:30pm). If I was told this before ordering I clearly would have ordered to eat in! The worst customer service I have ever experienced - will not return.

  • Nancy G.

I'm stumped...How do you mess up pizza??? I have never disliked a pizza so much that I could not eat it. (I'll even eat Little Caesar's in a pinch) We ordered a large pepperoni and a large vegetarian pizza to go. The vegetarian was bland and the tasteless. The crust was soggy, thin, and also flavorless. My husband had the pepperoni and had a similar experience. Throughout the evening several other family members mentioned the same disappointment. We will definitely NOT be going back there!

Worst pizza I have ever had. Not even brown on the top...just a bunch of dough we fed to the ducks. Avoid this place if at all possible.

Besides the pizza being better than chain offerings, nothing here is good. Took long to take our order, forever for food to come. Staff not just not friendly but plain rude! Place not clean at all. I don't recommend this place to others and definitely won't come again myself.

  • Melissa P.

Luigi's is cool because of it's location and the fact that it has pizza slices the size of my head. However, I don't think the pizza tastes the best or is of the best quality. It's more of a place to visit for the experience and sheer madness that is a 30in pizza

    (3)
  • Taimane U.

I highly recommend coming here because there pizza's sauce is nice and creamy and also there bread is crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside and it's so good but I gave this place 4 stars because there fettuccine Alfredo pasta I mean it was creamy and ok but it was kind of blah so you should come here

Options are limited in this touristy area. I'll admit, I had doubts about stepping into Luigi's for a slice of pizza and a drink. The place was swarming, and I had a some friends with me. We had to wait for a table, and that took extra long because they wouldn't put our name on the list until our driver found a parking space and joined the group. (My local contacts tell me that this is a common practice in the area.) It also took quite a while to get our food, especially given that we got pizza slices, which seem like an easy order. On the positive side, the service was good. The staff was busy, but maintained a warm attitude. The bar had a large number of drinks on tap--always a plus when eating pizza. The pizza itself was pretty darn good. And they aren't pulling your leg when they brag about the size of the slices. I've never seen bigger: about 2-3 times larger than average, but still at a decent price. All in all, I was happy, and I'd stop in again.

late night pizza craving after some drinks? their slices are TREMENDOUSLY HUGE! enough for 2 people to eat and be full. service was very friendly and quick. this place was packed, not only at night, but everytime we walked by, it was full of people. they have a nice patio or indoor seating.

Ugh. I've been coming here for over 30 years and tonight was probably the last time. This place is filthy. Not dirty. Filthy!! Ya ya I get "you're at the beach", I've grown up here. I get it. But trying to leave the restaurant my shirt was literally sticking to the chair covered in sticky goo. The floors are covered in filth complete with gum that appears to be a permanent fixture in the floor. If the Coaster Saloon can fix up the place why can't you just clean?? It's been a good run with lots of memories but there's other places that won't give me the gaggies while trying to eat.

  • Harsh B.

This place is really bad and the service isn't that great. The problem starts with the service. I waited in line for 5 mins to get inside and I said can I get a pizza by the slice and the guy working there had said that they weren't serving pizza by the slice rudely and the guy in front of me got pizza by the slice. I'm the customer I shouldn't be treated like trash. I leave outside and my dad goes in and places an order for a pie when I told him what had happened. So we waited outside and one of the employees came outside and told us it was about a 20 minute wait which turned into an hour and a half. People in front ofcourse got their pizza first which is totally fine but people behind us got their pizza first. It's ok to wait in line for pizza if it's worth it but it wasn't the pizza taste was very salty and the crust didn't taste right. The pizza was below average and the pizza was expensive. A large pizza with one topping costed us $20. There are much better places to eat than this place. Hold on to your wallet other items are overpriced and whose gonna pay $20 for one calzone

Literally the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I recently moved to mission beach with my boyfriend so we wanted to try all the local spots. The food does not taste very good, it takes a very long time to get your food, most of the menu is overpriced, the restaurant itself is somewhat dirty, and worst of all the waitresses are the epitome of what NOT to be in the restaurant business. We gave this place another chance after our first visit because we thought maybe it was just an off day for them.. It was worse the second time we went back. The waitress had a terrible attitude and acted as if we were inconveniencing her by just being there. We witnessed a family with small children waiting to be seated. The family politely asked the waitress twice when they would be seated. She said soon and then she kept taking orders. Meanwhile, other waitresses were socializing with one another behind the counter. They completely ignored the family so after the family waited for about fifteen minutes, we watched them walk away to go somewhere else. There is one waiter that works here that was nice to us and also the kitchen staff. It is clear that the poor service at this restaurant is due to waitresses who really don't care about customers and their experience at Luigi's. After talking with neighbors, it seems that this place stays in business because of tourism. For the price of the food, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the incredibly rude waitresses, I recommend you stay away from this place. My boyfriend and I will never go back.

Just had a great lunch at Luigi's / the experience made all the better by Ricky, who seated us, took our orders, served and entertained us. Pizza slices as big as a small pizza, and great pastas.

Scenario - Quick bite with bro, nephew n his girlfriend. The Food - XL pizza with pepperoni, bacon and sausage. The crust was not to thin or thick, perfectly cooked and there were visible anise seeds on the pizza, which is ok by me. Overall, the pizza was good and hearty but just good. Also, it is moderately priced. Service - Really great. They weren't particularly busy, but just the same our waiter was upbeat, jovial and attentive. He even offered to refill our drinks even when the check had already come. Atmosphere - Mission Beach casual with surfboards painted on tables and several TV screens on the wall tuned in to various sports channels. Return Visit? - If in the area yes, but wouldn't go out of my way. I have other favorite pizzerias.

This place is horrible. The manager is the worst manager I have ever dealt with. The pizza looks horrible and my friends who actually tried it confirmed my hypothesis. Do not go here. Save yourself the hassle. My friend says he has been eating pizza for over 34 years and this is the worst pizza he has ever had. He said this pizza wouldn't even be served in prison and if it was he would rather not eat.

Luigi's = great location, right off Mission beach. Walking around one night, we ran into this place, and realized we were starving! It's a tiny place, but where they lack restaurant space, they sure make up for in pizza size! 30 inch pizzas, including a challenge. If 2 people eat one in an hour or less, they get the pizza free, and a T shirt. I can barely finish one slice!! If you can, I recommend ordering a whole pizza, rather then slices, as the slices are just your choice of toppings added and heated. I did spinach and mushrooms one day, and the toppings were raw on top. It didn't stop me from returning the next day though, so it's still very good! Wanted to try a beer with, but left my I.D. at the hotel, and these guys weren't havin that lol!. :)

  • Rachel W.

Worst overpriced pizza I've ever had. We saw people walking down the beach carrying gigantic pizza boxes from this place so we looked it up on Yelp. Reviews suggested ordering by the whole, not by the slice, to avoid undercooked toppings so we ordered a large but that did not help. Our toppings were next to raw and there was not enough sauce. The crust and cheese were okay. We ordered a large supreme-like pizza with mozzarellla sticks to go and our bill was a whopping $43. Unfortunately, the pizza was so awful we ended up throwing over half of it away. What a waste.

I was SO craving a slice so we decided to stop in here because it was close to the hotel. Really good slice. I stuck with the classic...pepperoni. BF had mushrooms and sausage. Fresh mushrooms and lots of them. The slice was enormous. The price I thought was really good. Dried peppers and parm on the table. They gave us ranch...WOW. Great ranch, in a squeeze bottle and I'm not sure what was in it but it tasted like it might have actually been made with buttermilk. It was super tasty. I had my leftover pizza for breakfast and it was awesome cold (I put some ranch on it before I put it in the box). We split an antipasta salad which was pretty darn decent. Nice variety of peppers (that were pretty tasty) and olives. Pretty standard pizza place fare but it fit the bill. Great selection of beer...we had pints of the Ballast Skulpin IPA. The server suggested it and I had one prior and it definitely fits the bill with pizza. We ordered a chocolate mousse cake to go and it was really good. The server boxed it up nicely and put our whipped cream on the side. We were slightly later than normal people have dinner and got right in. The service was definitely punctual at all times. Our server was also SUPER FRIENDLY. And as a (clearly!!!) tourist, that's really appreciated. I believe his name was Rick and the service was fantastic. Only thing I would say that's negative is that when one of the other servers was doing her side work she was at a table and took that opportunity to pull her very long hair out of her pony tail, shake it out and re-do it. Not something that should be happening in the dining room. Having spent a fair amount of time in food service, it's kind of an ick moment for me. Regardless, it didn't have an impact on my meal but if I was the manager it would definitely be a "learning moment" (ie butt chewing). Overall, good slice, friendly service. Just what we needed at the time.

It's easy to eat vegetarian in San Diego, but a bit tough in Mission Beach. Luigi's is a great compromise. We shared a slice of cheese pizza (the size of your face!) with added basil and a caesar salad. My brother in law went with the meatball sub (made in house). Everything was delicious. Great local beers on tap and a great happy hour. Our server was very friendly! I couldn't believe when she offered us ranch dressing for the pizza. It's so hard to find that outside the South! A good place when you're looking for lunch or to grab a quick bite in Mission Beach.

This place is amazing. My kids and I had went to S.D. for a wedding and we headed to the beach for relaxation after the festivities were over with. My sister recommended Luigi's as she's eaten there before. She told me about the HUGE slices of pizza and I had to see them for myself. I wasn't in the mood for pizza that day, but I did get to see how enormous the slices really were. Their pizza is no joke. There was a problem with my order, my server apologized (they gave my burger to someone else), but that was ok because I had THE best burger I've ever eaten. It was juicy and had a lot of flavor. My daughter ordered the cheese sticks, which were amazing. My son had ordered a chicken wrap which was equally tasty. We had our dinner on the patio. There were a lot of people, but the ambiance was great. Their staff was super friendly. The restrooms were "eh" and could be updated, but they do the job. Its not enough to stop me from going there.

Stopped in during a recent trip to San Diego. They accommodated our large party (11 including a baby) with a friendly smile. Our server was great and attentive. They serve one of the largest pizzas I have ever seen in person I believe it was 30 inches. Should have gotten a picture of it. The pizza is decent and some of our party had lasagne which they say was good as well. Great little spot for a quite bite and/or huge appetites.

My boyfriend liked his pizza, hence another star. I honestly would give it one star. I ordered the garlic chicken calzone. First bite was okay. The next was completely inedible. I had to pick it apart. There was so much cheese in that thing, it was hard to eat. Bleh!

Not worth the wait!!!! The staff is rude and you will get a parking ticket if you park in front of this pizza place. The owners want people to pay for overpriced pizza and pick it up so they don't have to deal with vacationers. Don't fall for a special 30" pizzas it just 30" of terrible made pizza. 45 min later..... I had to add to my review because I am still here waiting for our pizza it took forever to get a pizza. I would never go there ever again!!!! You can get pizza anywhere nothing special about this place. If the restaurant next to them made a 40" pizza and called it Mario's it would be all the rave.

Decent pizza at a gorgeous spot in San Diego. Not a fan of most of the pizza places in SD, but this one is decent. Good selection of drinks, and the pizza is a little overpriced in my opinion. For a quick lunch and then hit the beach, this would be a fine place to go. Didn't like the sandwiches there, but the salads actually are pretty good including the caesar. Service is good here, and I would think about coming back here again in Mission Beach.

This place is a dirty beach pizza joint known for big slices and a massive pizza challenge. People here have complained about the service but our server was great. He was polite and efficient. The food was OK, we tried two pastas and a buffalo sandwich. The salads they give you are huge and free. So much so that I just had my sandwich wrapped to go and just ate my free caeser. Where I will complain is the state of nastiness in the women's room. Girls, scratch that - women - are messy brats but this was beyond gross. Either way for a quick slice it's not a bad joint, but I wouldn't celebrate my grandmother's birthday here.

Luigi's Pizza bills itself as "Pizza by the Beach." That's a good hook; and a good approach when you run a shore-side pizza joint. Having spent the better part of 36 years roaming East coast beaches all the way from Cape Cod to Cape May, Ocean City to Virginia Beach, and Myrtle Beach to Miami Beach, I had certain expectations as we sat at Luigi's. In the end, "Pizza by the Beach" was delivered. The pies are round. You can buy a whole pie, or, go for a "Giant Slice" which Luigi's bills as "bigger than a small pizza." That's relative. Luigi's does not serve a "small" pie. It starts at medium and heads all the way up the 30-inch, two-person pizza-eating challenge. So, the giant slice might be bigger than a small pizza, if by small pizza you mean English muffin pizza. What matters though, is the "Giant Slice" will run you $4.96, and regardless of how you define small, that is a good deal. The pizza is comparable to New York style pizza, only with a slightly doughier crust and considerably less grease on the surface. In fact, I was quite surprised how well my plate stood up to the Giant Slice. Almost no grease at all. There are other items on the menu, but there's no point in bothering. I noticed some Yelpers on here moaning about some of these items. Look, you went to a pizza joint and you didn't like your salad. That's like going to a Waffle House and complaining about the burgers. Get over yourself. Is Luigi's the world's best pizza? No. Is it a 4-Star, brick oven pizza café? No. Is it a solid, go-to beachfront pizza joint? You bet. We'll be back and that is for sure. And we'll know next time not to ask them to split the check. They won't do it, and they're pretty adamant about that.

Pizza and wings - the pizza was good- doughy crust but good! The wings r not that great. They toss them in franks red hot sauce and they were not that great. Service was excellent! I guess if u can eat their 30 inch pizza in 1 hr u win a challenge . We were there when a challenge was going on!

Garlic bread had absolutely no flavor, I wouldn't made my worst enemy eat it. The mussels were ok, fit $13.50, I expected way more mussels. The beers were good though.

We ran into this place while we were down at the beach because my friend went there as a child and remembered great huge pizza slices. Well, her memory may have served her wrong or we had a bad day. We only ordered the "giant" slice each and beer. The slice did indeed live up to the name. But it wasn't very good. It tasted old and re-heated. Not at all memorable. The best thing about is was the price for the slice and a beer was $7.50. Probably a good place to go if you've had a lot to drink and don't care about taste.

Many moons ago when I was stationed here we would come down to MB and get a slice from Luigi's. It is now some years later and my wife and I brought the family down for dinner tonight. Before we came I looked up the Yelp reviews and was amazed at all the negative reviews. We decided to roll the dice. Pleasantly surprised, nothing had changed. The same great service and the same great food. I walked in and asked if there was a list and the gal asked how many, the name and inside or patio. 5 for the patio. We were seated in less than 10 minutes. Ricky was our waiter and he couldn't be any more pleasant or helpful. He was spot on with the amount of salad we needed to order and our glasses never were empty. When the pizza (30" party) arrived it was cooked to perfection. Some joints cook there vegetables with the pizza which make them soggy. Not here. They put them on after the pie comes out so they are nice and crisp. The crust was just right as well. Not too thick or too thin. If there was one thing I would give a knock to, it is the Caesar Salad. The dressing was a little runny and there was no parmesan cheese on it. Thanks Luigi's for another great evening of food and service and we'll see you next time. You too Ricky.

GREAT pizza, terrible service! The host was extremely rude, and the other employees weren't very nice either

Honestly the service here is great, but I would not eat here again. It looks like the pizza is their biggest seller, and it may be good but I did not try and neither did anyone I was with. We had a couple of their sandwiches and they were pretty much awful. I've had better homemade sandwiches. Oh and I found a hair in mine. 0/10 recommend.

DON'T DO IT TOURISTS!! Don't bring your family or kids here...WAIT...don't go here with anyone! This place is only in business because a constant flow of new tourists come in weekly, otherwise it would not survive if they had to actually satisfy the customer base. Recommended by the valet at the Hyatt Mission Bay, we went here for lunch with our kids. We walked in about 12:10pm. It was pretty empty, so we sat at a table outside. Out of 6 tables, we were the 2nd one out there. We ordered lunch items, 3 kids meals and 2 chicken sandwiches. We did not get our food for almost 45 minutes! This is a pizza joint/ italian casual dining restaurant mind you. In the time we waited for our food, all the other tables outside were sat and fed and new patrons were sitting at two table and got their food before we got ours. I went in to ask about our food. A waitress (not ours) said we weren't her table, but she would ask out server. Gee, thanks. Another 10 minutes passed and our food was brought out luke warm to cool in temp and not really even average. And wait, they add an 18% gratuity to parties of 5 or more. This has to be because most people would not leave a tip due to the below average food and horrible service. This place will stay in business due to location to tourists going to the beach, not because it is at all worth going to. DON'T DO IT TOURISTS!! This is a small business that needs to be out of business

UT wrote this place up as really good so tried it. What a waste! Entered and gave our name and told 15 min. We sat at a table by the door to wait and quickly told we had to wait outside. Not sure why when there were empty tables. Should have left at that point. Had pizza that was so-so. Nothing special. What really was gross is how dirty the place is!!!! The ceiling fans are loaded with dirt and couldn't have been cleaned in months. And not just one fan, all of them. Floor dirty. Thank god I didn't go much farther than I did into this place because I could only imagine how filthy it was. 0/5 is my score and recommend they close for a day to clean this place. Gross is an understatement!

The best pizza! Honestly, I love the pizza! The location is on a main road but most of the seating is inside so it's great for people watching. The bread is fresh, the sauce is perfect, and the beer is cold! If the pizza was not great, I would go somewhere else because there are lots of other spots but it rocks!

Disappointed :( This was one of my favorite places to visit when visiting... not as good as I remembered. Not sure if the pizza wasn't fresh or what but it just didn't taste very good and we never saw our waiter... Portions are HUGE but if the food isn't good, you don't want to eat it anyway.

If I could give this place -5 stars I would. My boyfriend and I came here around 9pm on a thursday. we waited 30 minutes till we were served our drinks another 30 till our server took our order. When the order finally came he dropped half the pizza on to the table. AND we were charged full price! The service sucked. The pizza tasted like cardboard with jizz on it. The only good thing about this place was the ranch.. I would hate to see the quality of service when they're actually slammed. But hey, maybe they are never slammed because their pizza sucks. Pretty sure people only come here for the beer.

Huge sliced pizza, 1 pizza 2 kids works great. As for super dirty it's not that bad, it's a beach joint what you expect!. The staff stays forever they never quit.

SUCKS!! Couldn't rate the food service was so bad, we left, it was dirty and unorganized. Sign says wait to be seated but your handed menus and told to seat yourself. Then your forgot about.

A co-worker who comes to Mission Beach every year for family vacation recommended this spot to me ages ago and I've been meaning to try it ever since. I was a little hesitant after reading all the negative reviews on Yelp for this place because it paints a picture of this place being somewhere between Amy's Baking Company and the Pizza Nazi. I thought I would need to pack a pair of duelling pistols in case an employee insults my honor - we'd just walk our five paces and then BAM! I'd come back every year afterwards to do a little grave dancing. But no. It was NOTHING like that at all. From the get go the manager sat us at a great table right at the northeast corner of the restaurant where we could people watch - there was tons of foot traffic travelling north and south on Mission boulevard. So we ordered drinks - I got the Lost Abbey Devotion Belgian Pale Ale and my dining companion got a bottle of Deschutes. From where I was sitting there were a bunch of TVs all playing different games. Between that and bikinis going by right out the window, I must have had the best seat in the house. Your mileage may vary of course - as always. For food I got the famous Giant Slice with added shrimp, fresh basil, and fresh cilantro. My dining companion got the Grilled Salmon Wrap which comes with Gorgonzola Cheese, tomatoes, walnuts, lettuce and toasted sesame dressing. Both were delicious and huge portions allowing us to share easily. That giant slice is from a 30 inch pizza and is pretty much the size of a personal pizza if not even slightly larger. The food was great and we had a great time - our server was very courteous and attentive. I'm more of a Pacific Beach or Ocean Beach person but if I'm ever back in this area I would definitely come back again. It's located on the northwest corner of Mission Boulevard and Ventura Place just north of Belmont Park. Parking - is where you find it. This is one of the most touristy areas in the whole city from the corner all the way down to the beach is all tourist trap type shops. Your best bet is probably to drive north on Mission to where it gets more residential and find a spot there or on a side street and walk back south a bit. Oh yeah - forgot to mention. They have a Pizza challenge - one 30 inch pizza, 2 people. No bathroom breaks, throwing up, leftovers or leaving. One hour. It'll take two pretty big boys to conquer this - after fasting for two days. LOL.

Had the grilled Cesar wrap with onion rings and my rings were burnt and the wrap was bland My husband had a plate of chicken parmigiana and the sauce was watery Wouldn't go here again And I felt like telling the people that were walking in toy walk out!!

*right by Belmont Park *got seated quickly and promptly *found a bug in my water cup *friend and I attempted the 30 inch pizza challenge while the whole restaurant was cheering us on!!! we failed and only ate little over half of the pizza. I actually enjoyed the pizza and the oversize slice proportions. in fact I am now going to finish this post and finish the 6 slices left in my refrigerator.

Lots of people walking into this place on a Saturday afternoon, but don't be fooled. My boyfriend and I went in and ordered spaghetti and meatballs and a 1/2 Deli sandwich when the sandwich finally got there the cheese was moldy and there was a hair in it. Walked out and headed to wave cafe around the corner were for the same price we also got a beach view, fantastic service and an amazing root beer float!

This place NEVER FAILS ME!! service is great and pizza is DELICIOUS. My boyfriend ordered a chicken fettuccine with Alfredo sauce and he said it was great! I ordered a Giant slice and any topping I wanted. So I put olives, mushrooms, and onions with a side of buffalo sauce. We will be back soon. We were a party of 11 and they don't take reservations so plan ahead.:) keep it up!!!!!

Visited on a Tuesday around 2 pm. Place was empty except 2 tables. No wait. Had 5 in our party as my daughters were at park. We were seated at a table for 8 so left us with 3 empty chairs. Ordered drinks and pizza - daughters decided to come eat. Waitress and hostess did not want to sit them with us but wanted them to sit at another empty table even though they were eating with us and I was paying for their meal. Pizza wasn't all the rave - bland and no flavor and the pepperoni topping was left off pizza. And parties of 5 or more = 18% gratuity. Not worth $84.00 for a vacation meal.

I've been coming to Luigi's for over 20 years and it never ceases to fail me. Delicious pizza and ice cold local brews on tap. The service is always fast and friendly. On the flip side, not quite sure how this place hasn't been repromanded for lack of cleanliness, however Luigi's wouldn't be Luigi's without napkins on the floor and holes in the walls in the bathrooms. I was pleased to see they FINALLY added a baby changing table to the restroom, yay! Love this place and will continue to return!

On the same street as BELMONT park, this is the place to go for a GIANT pizza slice.. and boy are the slices GIANT. I ordered a slice with Clams ($4.99 + $1.49per topping) and you really get a slice that's much bigger than a personal sized pizza. Such a deal... wash it down with a beer, and dinner is set! (they serve wine too) Pros: Outside dining available, good for groups, options to buy Slices or whole pizzas. Eat a 30" pizza within an hour between you and one other person and get the meal free! Cons: their "cocktails" are made with rice wine (not vodka) as they only sell beer/wine.

This place was ok- their lemon chicken is delicious! Their pizza was ok, but it's definitely huge! The inside is really hot and busy, so I recommend sitting outside, though there are definitely flies. The service was a little unorganized but our waiter was cool.

This place is best to go to on tuesday. This is the day they have slices for pretty cheap and you can add whatever toppings you want to a single slice. The pizza is not the best I have had by far but it is definitely not the worst. they also have decent beer specials on this night too. Outside of really big slices for a good price, there is nothing too special at this place. The service isn't that quick, nor is it always friendly. I do suggest going in with some people that are going to try the 30 inch pizza challenge just to add a bit of excitement to your trip.

I'm sure this review won't hurt this place, since its only a few hundred feet from the beach and it will still get foot traffic. However, when someone steals from me I will say something about it. My wife and I went in for 2 slices of pizza and 1 draft beer. Our total was 19 bucks and some change (not that great of a deal, but that's a different review) When we payed our bill, I put -0- in the tip line and totaled it at the $19 and change because I was going to leave a few bucks cash. We had only been there for 20 mins; taking up two bar seats, less than 20 bucks worth of food/drinks on our bill, and one beer/two slices handed over the counter, so $3 bucks seemed like an ok tip. Guess it wasn't because when I looked at my bank statement today, someone added their own extra tip to my charge. Not cool at all. Go ahead and eat here, but just be sure to check your bank charges in the following days.

Great Pizza and Beer location near the beach and Belmont Park. Had a quick family dinner here after spending the afternoon on the rides at Belmont Park. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and the pizza is tasty. Something about their dough ~ the pizza crust is very good. We had the Missy's Mediterranean, which had a nice blend of flavors including feta, mozzarella, chicken, garlic and artichoke hearts. Wife enjoyed the Chicken Piccatta with a side of pasta instead of rice.

place was a pig pen, the Manager was a dick when we walked in food all over the floor, way over filled past a fire marshalls limit, the pizza was clearly not fresh, the restroom were a total mess, clean the dump up, will not return and that was my first time.

Overall the experience was disappointing since most of the food seemed overpriced for the quality. They were unable to handle our crowd even though we reserved the entire back patio. You would think they would expect that most of the group would arrive at the same time. I will admit, the shrimp and ravioli was good though. Decent beer selection and a good sized patio in the back is the only thing giving it a 2nd star. After running a 10k, I couldn't stomach more than 2 bites of the free pizza at the finish line. After that, I knew I'dnever eat it again...

Food was ehhh and the waitress was rude, she didn't bring my sons drink until the end of the meal and then when I complained about it she didn't even apologize, she just said well you should have told me. Why do I have to tell you to do your job?? Maybe if they wrote the order down she wouldn't have had to come back and re-ask my hubby his order and wouldn't have forgotten the drink. Don't waste your money here!!!

This is based, primarily, on the monolithic pizza challenge of death (a moniker, I'm sure, Luigi's wont be endorsing). So me and my friend decide to gnaw on a 30 inch pizza, plucking and pulling at the slices like two hyenas feasting over the entrails of a dead animal, until our maws are slathered in regret, anger, grease. We have one hour to feast upon a pizza the size of a Titanic lifeboat, so we immediately fish for slice after slice. The first bite into the pizza is drenched in pizza sauce and grease. It's pretty good, for the most part, even though there are so many fluids pooling up on the pepperoni that the pie starts to look like the River Styx. By the time we finish half of the pizza, there are so many red, wadded up napkins on the table that it looks like we performed Civil War era surgery on an amputation table. We barrel through more than half of the pizza until there is around 3 slices left. At this point, we're dying of sodium intake and anger. The rivalry of pizza vs. man, to us, has now become as legendary as John Henry vs. The Machine, Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston, Ty Cobb vs. Sam Crawford, John Wilkes Booth vs. Abe Lincoln, Dr. Dre vs. Eazy-E, Kevin Smith vs. Airplane. I start to hit the proverbial wall and my mind starts doing peyote-like tricks on me. The song in the restaurant is "You Cant Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones, and I suddenly feeling like everyone is laughing at our potential failure. Then, after the dough on the pizza has cooled enough to the point where it's as cold and chewy as flavorless gum, I hang up my cleats and bow out. We lose. Side notes: Great beer selection (main reason for the three stars). Pizza on par with Sbarro (take that as you will). Service decent.

Well we were craving Italian food, not necessarily pizza. The lasagna was very tasty. The fettucini alfredo was woefully bland....like noodles in glue. The cesar salad was again really bland....the dressing was a watered down, milky mess. Oh well, if I lived around this place and craved Italian, I'd drive long and far.

Came in with a large group for lunch because we all wanted burgers and saw $6 burgers. The owner or manager sits us down. Very nice guy who sat us down. We waited 10 minutes before our server greets us. She says Hello, I'll be right there. Apparently she was the only one who could serve. She was in the weeds because she never came back to us. A gentleman then comes up to us after 15 minutes now of not getting anything except silverware. He comes up and asks us if were ready to order. We say yes to the guy and then he says "Ok, I'll be right back!" Now we wait 5 more minutes until he comes back to order. Then he comes back to take one tables order. Now, we wait patiently for our lunch. Remind you I'm with a big group and were hungry. 45 minutes later our 4 burgers out of 13 burgers come out. He hands us a side dish and says," orders had to many revisions here is mayo, mustard, and the veggies on the side to make your own." Never have I seen this happen at restaurant or have I done that. I also asked for Medium Rare, it was Medium. Not complaining because I was starving. Then, 6 more burgers come out 10 minutes later. After we had just finished our burgers. Then the other burgers came out 10 minutes after them. I had to get up three times to ask them where is the food? I even said we've been here over an hour just to get 13 burgers. Then he says he didn't charge us for drinks because of the wait. He also added gratuity to the table and I didn't want to pay his tip. He comes up after were about to leave and says "Hey, they called me To come work because the other girl couldn't take on more tables and I live 2 blocks down" I said, "Ok, that's your manager fault then because he made you and the kitchen look bad for not staffing properly." Here's the most Interesting point of this review. Their Was a older couple that was in there before we all sat down. As we were leaving they had just gotten their food. Total time to eat and check out about 90 minutes or more. Burgers were nothing special.

We've been here a couple of times. The pizza is good. Having said that, we went yesterday and found out that pizza is a better option than anything else on the menu. My husband had the pastrami sandwich. There were two slices of pastrami on a huge roll. He could barely taste anything other than bread. Most pastrami sandwiches pile on the pastrami. If they are going to continue to put it on the menu, they should modify the sandwich. I ordered a calzone. I got one of the standards and asked to add a couple of things to it. The very nice server said it wouldn't be a problem. After everyone else had been served their food the server let me know if would be a few more minutes. As everyone else finished their food I simply asked for it to go since I still hadn't gotten it. In the end they comped the drinks for our table (5 iced teas I think) and charged us for the calzone. I was so annoyed I ended up just throwing it away. While it may sound like I was a little impatient, please understand that we were in a group of 12. Everyone else got their food, ate and were waiting for my calzone. I believe I finally got the calzone about 15 minutes after the other table from our group left to free up their table for other patrons. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because the manager was really good at trying to accommodate large groups (both ours and one other) and the server, Mike, was good. Wish I could review the food. I didn't have any.

Do not go to this place at any cost especially if you are a tourist and really love pizza. The service is horrendous. I visited San Diego and wanted to taste a good pizza. The map given to me by the hotel where I checked had a Luigi's ad that said the place had the best pizza in town so off I went with my family. Disappointed big time! I placed my pizza order at 6:07 PM and was told it would take 20 mins. for my order to be ready. I waited. And waited. And waited. After about 30 mins. 5 pizzas came out but my pizza was not ready yet. They were for a pretty white lady. So I waited even more. And waited. And waited. Meanwhile about 50 patrons streamed in and they were all seated right away and served beer and pizza. The spike-haired crew had the best greetings for the beautiful ladies coming in but can only tell me to wait even longer for my pizza. Oh wait, did I mention I was not white? Hmmm, maybe that was the reason. Some more pizzas came out but they were for delivery. (For even more white patrons perhaps?) After 50 mins and three times checking, I was told it was my fault that my pizza got delayed. Two white dude said they've been yelling my name but I did not respond. Really? I was seated by the bench just off the front door and I swear I am not deaf, or non-whites are supposed to be deaf? I took my pizza and threw it on the curb. Anyway the smell might just foul up the interior of my MBenz GL. Ceasar's $5.00 pizza might have been better. And the servers there are non-white so perhaps they can understand me.

Probably the worst dining experience. We just got into town (wife, mom, and 4 year old son and myself.) Sat down on the patio, about 5 minutes later the couple behind us got into a little spat. The guy began cussing, and yelling. After a few minutes we moved inside. About 15 minutes later the love birds from outside left. We talked to our waiter, and he said he never noted that we moved inside, and that it would be alright if we went back out on the patio. After grabbing our drinks the manager approached me. She reprimanded me, telling me we can't move back and forth. I explained the situation with the guy cussing at his significant other, and making racial slurs... oh yeah, that happened too. Anywho, she informed me that I was wrong, and that I should have let her know of the situation... It is obvious this lady is on a power trip of some sorts, and completely ignorant. My wife was pissed. The only reason we stayed is because my son wanted his pizza, and our order was put in over a half hour ago. I just wanted to eat, and put the whole experience behind me. As for the food, we got the Mediterranean pizza. Was ok, would have been better with grilled chicken instead of boiled chicken. We will not be eating here ever again. The racist drunk guy was pretty bad, but the ignorant manager was worse since it is her job to make the customer feel welcome.

Burnt chicken. Chicken parm sandwich was just strange. The sauce tasted like tomato paste mixed with salsa. Buffalo chick tenders were doused in so much sauce it was inedible.

Often confused with the green-suspender-ed brother of Mario, Luigi's is very capable of rescuing you from the clutches of the Bowser of Hunger. The service may be a bit on the sluggish side. Whatever, if you've ever worked in the industry, prompt service is relative to the staff that made it to work and the amount of guests at any given time. Can I get an AMEN from all you service industry workers? Luigi's does something that few other spots accomplish. They make you feel at home, and provide some of the best Pizza options known to man. I know the menu goes beyond just pizza, yet I simply must purchase the giant slice every time. Oh, it just so happens to be bumping elbows with the beach. So yeah, if you experience that hunger that can only be introduced from total immersion in salt water, then this is the spot. After a good day in the ocean, my level of hunger is extreme. Friends look like steaming steaks. Random people resemble burritos. It's a little scary. Luigi's is MB's version of Yahoo's Tacos in La Jolla. I should review them too. Hunger, be gone! Great Pizza with an extensive variety of toppings. Cool vibe with a no-shoes-no-problem attitude. The beers are local, and also very affordable during the hard-to-find happy hour. Don't tell the tourists, let's keep this spot local please =)

"So...do you think it'd be cheaper to get the big pizza and just spilt it?" "Yeah, let's do it, why not?" ~30 mins later... "Uh, wow. That thing could feed an entire classroom of kids on pizza day...and still have leftovers." To be brutally honest, I've had better pizza. But the novelty of the giant pizza slices (or whole pizza, if you're n00bs like me and my friends) is kinda fun if you're into that stuff. I personally could barely finish one slice... Best part about Luigi's is that it's close to Belmont Park and the Mission Bay fields. Good luck with finding parking though...

Love that there is a bomb-ass pizza joint right by the beach. There are tons of Mexican food around but I'm glad Luigi's was there to serve up some mean pizza! Came here with a large party- ordered the football calzone, missy mediteranean pizza, spaghetti and clam sauce and a salad to be healthy. =) No one was disappointed and everyone loved their food. The calzone was HUGE and filled with meats cheese and more meats! The pizza was AMAZE-- homemade alfredo sauce with spinach, tomato, olives and my fave- artichoke hearts! The crust on the pizza was fantastic, thin layer that held all the toppings and a fluffy crust! The spaghetti was filled with clams, calamari and they tossed in the shrimp on accident but didn't charge us for it. Sweet! I was ready for a nap on the beach after our big meal. I saw a sign for a 30'' pizza challenge... I would have loved to see someone take down a big ole pizza!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
